What You Can Expect

Heart of San Francisco Bike Tour

Heart of San Francisco Bike Tour

Your bicycling tour begins in Hayes Valley, where you’ll meet your guide and get fitted with a bike and helmet. After a safety briefing it’s time to hit the streets, meandering along backroads and the flattest routes so that you can enjoy the ride without worrying about steep hills and traffic. There are plenty of rest stops built into the schedule. During these stops, your guide will give you a bit of history on what you’re seeing. They’re also the perfect opportunity for snapping pics.

From Hayes Valley, known for its boutique shops and some incredible restaurants, you’ll head into Civic Center, home to San Francisco’s stunning City Hall. The Mission District is known for its many taquerias as well as its street art, especially along Clarion Alley, and en route to Haight-Ashbury you’ll get to enjoy one of the city’s most popular bicycling routes, “The Wiggle,” which miraculously manages to avoid all the nearby hills.

You’ll see that hippie culture is still alive and well in the Haight before heading off to Golden Gate Park, San Francisco’s largest park and home to some of its best museums. Then you’ll pedal over to NoPa to take in the “Painted Ladies” of Alamo Square, a row of Victorian homes that have appeared on everything from postcards to calendars. They’re even part of the Full House intro.

By the time you’re back in Hayes Valley you’ll have covered 10 miles (16 km). The ride takes between 3 and 3.5 hours, depending on the group and number of rest stops.

Terrific way to experience the city! Our two guides shared their personal stories and passions for aspects of life in SF, making the tour that much more interesting. I doubted that we could do SF without some serious hill climbing, but they found a way that was not too strenuous for any of the 10 people on the tour.

Great tour of San Francisco... we did it with Uncle Adam and he was great very informative and he went out of his way to make everyone comfortable and to show us both side of San Francisco the tourist side and the side that he has come to love after being here for 10 years. Highly recommend.

This was such a good value tour. Our host Ambika was really friendly, knowledgeable and put our road safety first throughout the tour. It was a fantastic way to take in San Francisco and we even managed to avoid all those infamous hills. I regret not taking advantage of the discount offer to rent the bike on a second day - it is a great deal. If and when I return to San Francisco, I would definitely use this tour group again.
