Visit Muir Woods and Sausalito with a 4-hour small-group tour from San Francisco. See the majestic redwoods at Muir Woods National Monument, then head to the bayshore to explore Sausalito. Stay longer in Sausalito if you wish and return to San Francisco by ferry (own expense).
Begin your small-group tour with morning pickup from centrally located San Francisco hotels between Union Square and Fisherman’s Wharf.
Your guide shares some of the San Francisco Bay Area's history as you make your way to Muir Woods before the crowds arrive. Travel over the Golden Gate Bridge to reach Muir Woods, which is nestled in the hills near the Pacific Ocean.
Established in 1908, the Muir Woods National Monument encompasses 300 acres (121 hectares) of protected parkland. Inside stands California's renowned Sequoia sempervirens (coast redwoods), which once grew throughout coastal California but now few of the old growth trees remain.
Have 1.5 hours to stroll around the redwood forest before heading over the hill to stop in Sausalito for lunch. There, you can pop into the shops, and purchase lunch from one of several waterfront restaurants.
Amazing tour I loved it, the park is incredable and the guide very good
Really enjoyable experience with a professional tour leader who was extremely friendly and informative. Would definitely recommend.
Glad we picked this tour. The small group was the way to go. Our tour guide, Patrick, made our time even better. Muir Woods was chilly so take warm clothes for the walk. The views were just gorgeous--have your camera ready! Our stop in Sausalito was enjoyable. It's a pretty quaint area. You won't be disappointed.
We thoroughly enjoyed doing this trip, especially in a small group rather than a large coach. It made the trip more personal. The woods are majesty and a must see if you are visiting San Francisco. Patrick, our tour guide was very entertaining and knowledgable about both the woods and the history of Sausalito. He had us interacting in music quizzes and singing along together. He went out of his way to accommodate all our needs.
Our guide Patrick was wonderful! He is very knowledgeable about the Bay area and full of fun facts. Muir Woods is breathtaking. We had about an hour and a half to walk the trails which was enough time to take in the beauty. Sausalito is a cute town to grab lunch after touring Muir Woods. We did not have enough time to shop and have lunch so we choose lunch. If you want to extend your stay, take advantage of taking the ferry back to Fisherman's Wharf. Patrick gets bonus points for the chocolate stash!
Driver and tour guide was very informative and funny as well. The sights in Muir Woods were absolutely amazing and really cool to drive over the Golden Gate Bridge as well. You could tell the guides passion for San Francisco and Muir Woods and it made the tour that much better, also a nice stop in Sausalito. Vehicle was great and driver was right on time!
The tour driver was very nice, had a lot of information and a great driver. We had a great time at Muir Woods despite the rain. It is a truly amazing place to see. Sausalito was a beautiful place to see picturesque! It just was not enough time to really browse in all the stores.
We were on a cruise ship and I was thinking is this going to work? Worked just fine. The guide/driver was exactly on time. We were in a small Mercedes van, 14 seats. Got a good overview of SF, crossed the Golden Gate Bridge and headed on to Muir woods. Beautiful walk through the last of the old sequoias. We had almost 2 hours at Muir woods and walked up to the 4th bridge and back. Then it was on to Sausalito. Fun to browse up and down the beach road.
The driver was very knowledgable. Overall a great tour. About 40 less than the cruise line tour.

I booked this tour for the second day of our two day stop in San Francisco. Patrick, our guide/driver picked us up from our designated location right on time. He stopped at the Golden Gate Bridge for a few moments so everyone was able to get some fabulous pics. He was very entertaining and provided great commentary throughout our drive to Muir Woods, and got us there before the crowds which was very nice. We spent an ample amount of time there before heading to Sausalito for an hour then back to San Francisco. In my opinion going small group is by far a better option.
Small size makes it all the more better as the guide is able to explain and pay attention to every member.
