What You Can Expect

San Francisco Super Saver: Muir Woods & Wine Country w/ optional Gourmet Lunch

Wine Country

Muir Woods National Monument tour:
Hotel pickup in San Francisco starts early for the drive north across the Golden Gate Bridge, meaning you’ll reach Muir Woods before many other tours arrive. On your way out of the city, see the Palace of Fine Arts and the Presidio.

Muir Woods National Monument is home to a pristine forest of California coastal redwoods, which are some of the planet’s tallest and oldest trees with heights that can reach 250 feet (76 meters). You have about one hour here to wander through the grove of trees with your guide, who will tell you about the local vegetation and wildlife along the nature trail while you walk over mossy streams. Then return to the tour vehicle for the drive further north into wine country.

Wine country tour:
When you reach your first winery in Sonoma County’s Carneros region, you can explore the grounds, enjoy photo ops of the vineyard and sample a variety of wines in a welcoming atmosphere. For lunch, guests can choose one of two lunch options. The first is to venture out on their own and try one of the many cafés and restaurants located in the plaza. The second option is to upgrade their wine country experience to the next level with a private seated gourmet food and wine pairing experience at a local restaurant. They will enjoy delicious local food paired with a collection of California wines. After being greeted with Sonoma Valley cheeses and sparkling wine, guests may select a course such as tomato bisque, pasta with almond-arugula pesto and grated pecorino romano or grilled salmon with seasonal vegetables and balsamic reduction.

Afterward, continue your tour to your second and third wineries in Sonoma County or Napa County for more tastings. Total time at each winery is about one hour, and you’ll have the chance to taste 3 to 5 wines of different varietals, from white to red to sparkling at each stop. Tasting fees are included, and you may purchase bottles to take home, if you wish. See below for a sample of wineries you may visit.

Your day trip ends with the drive back across the Golden Gate Bridge. Admire views of the vast Pacific and the rugged coastline before hotel drop-off.

Wow! This was our favorite tour on our San Francisco vacation! As always, the Muir Woods are amazing - we all wished we'd had a little more time there but wine tasting was waiting! We went into both Sonoma and Napa, and visited 3 really decent wineries. We also did the gourmet lunch, which was very nice and a good way to visit with some of the other folks on our tour. The only negative was that the bus got pretty warm when we were in wine country it was in the 90's, and the AC just wasn't doing the job. Luckily, the driver took us up to the Marin overlook on the way back, and we all got a chance to cool off, stretch our legs and get some amazing photos of the city and Golden Gate. HIGHLY recommend this tour!

Sights are amazing and the trekking is quite easy. The forest itself has a zen like feel as people are not supposed to be making a lot of noise in the woods. I took the optional gourmet lunch and it was alright - I remember there were other choices in the area which are quite good according to my fellow travelers so go for the optional gourmet lunch if you're lazy like I am.

I absolutely loved this tour - it was the definite highlight of my visit to San Francisco. At the heart of this tour was our guide, Jake. He taught us a lot of history and interesting facts about the sights we visited, entertained us with jokes and music, and simply was a delight to spend the day with. As a solo tourist, I was a bit apprehensive about visiting wine country - but I never felt alone or bored with Jake in charge, bringing smiles to my face all day. I cannot thank him enough for creating such a memorable and wonderful experience for me.

The tour itself involved about an hour in Muir Woods enough to quickly walk the main loop and visit the gift shop and visits to three different wineries. Each offered generous tastings as well as interesting background information about their wines. I appreciated that each winery felt unique from the others, making each visit interesting and different - as a result, the tour didn't feel repetitive. The red wines in particular were delicious, while the vineyards themselves were superb for taking photos.

The day also included an extremely pleasant visit to Sonoma Plaza, which offers many lunch options as well as a beautiful park and historic sights. In addition, on the way back to downtown San Francisco, we stopped at a fantastic spot to take photos of the Golden Gate Bridge.

I highly recommend this tour to anyone, even if you are not a wine aficionado. The Muir Woods and vineyards provide a magical outdoor experience, while the tour guide, Jake, fills the day with learning and fun.

This was such a great way to experience wine country in a day! The redwoods and Muir were breathtaking. The drive through the Sonoma and Napa was stunning. We really appreciated the small, family vineyards that we were able to visit in Sonoma. Our driver/guide was amazing - super nice, funny, and a pleasure to be with all day. There are PLENTY of options for lunch in Sonoma Square, but the wine pairing lunch option add-on to the trip was fantastic and made the day worry free! I recommend to anyone that wants to simply relax and get a great overview of wine country while visiting the Bay area!

This was the perfect combination for one day! Muir woods was a surreal magical forest. The Wine country tour was DEFINITELY worth it. The knowledge of the winery owners were amazing and they didn't scrimp on the free samples.

This wine tour was excellent! It included all tastings and we got to go to one winery in Napa, one in Sonoma, and one in Marin. Muir Woods was also a must see, the Redwood trees truly are breathtaking. Well worth the cost and our tour guide Aoko was great! She was very informative and funny and made the tour that much more enjoyable, I highly recommend doing this wine tour.
