What You Can Expect

San Francisco Super Saver: Muir Woods & Wine Country w/ optional Gourmet Lunch

Wine Country

Muir Woods National Monument tour:
Hotel pickup in San Francisco starts early for the drive north across the Golden Gate Bridge, meaning you’ll reach Muir Woods before many other tours arrive. On your way out of the city, see the Palace of Fine Arts and the Presidio.

Muir Woods National Monument is home to a pristine forest of California coastal redwoods, which are some of the planet’s tallest and oldest trees with heights that can reach 250 feet (76 meters). You have about one hour here to wander through the grove of trees with your guide, who will tell you about the local vegetation and wildlife along the nature trail while you walk over mossy streams. Then return to the tour vehicle for the drive further north into wine country.

Wine country tour:
When you reach your first winery in Sonoma County’s Carneros region, you can explore the grounds, enjoy photo ops of the vineyard and sample a variety of wines in a welcoming atmosphere. For lunch, guests can choose one of two lunch options. The first is to venture out on their own and try one of the many cafés and restaurants located in the plaza. The second option is to upgrade their wine country experience to the next level with a private seated gourmet food and wine pairing experience at a local restaurant. They will enjoy delicious local food paired with a collection of California wines. After being greeted with Sonoma Valley cheeses and sparkling wine, guests may select a course such as tomato bisque, pasta with almond-arugula pesto and grated pecorino romano or grilled salmon with seasonal vegetables and balsamic reduction.

Afterward, continue your tour to your second and third wineries in Sonoma County or Napa County for more tastings. Total time at each winery is about one hour, and you’ll have the chance to taste 3 to 5 wines of different varietals, from white to red to sparkling at each stop. Tasting fees are included, and you may purchase bottles to take home, if you wish. See below for a sample of wineries you may visit.

Your day trip ends with the drive back across the Golden Gate Bridge. Admire views of the vast Pacific and the rugged coastline before hotel drop-off.

We really enjoyed the day in Muir Woods, Sonoma, and Napa! Picked up right at the hotel by our guide, Lars - our group enjoyed the scenery as he pointed out the sights and took us to see beautiful trees and taste great wine. Lars was fantastic every part of the trip - fun and knowledgeable. He really went above and beyond to make this the perfect day. Wineries were beautiful. Plenty to drink. We chose to find our own lunch and found a great place in town. A quick stop at Golden Gate bridge on the way back made the perfect day complete.

Really nice trip- getting to Muir Woods early was perfect and the 3 wineries were all different and gave a good overview of Sonoma/Napa Wineries. Travis was the perfect guide combining pertinent information, humor, and quiet as we moved through the day. Recommend!

We had a great time with Kim on our recent Muir Woods and Wine Country tour. We started the day with a nice walk through Muir Woods and then had plenty of time at each of the 3 wineries we visited. We opted to have lunch on our own and there were several good options to choose from at the Plaza. It was nice to know that someone else was doing the driving while we were doing the tasting! Kim gave us an extra stop on the way back to take some pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge since we had left in the fog in the morning.

Our tour guide/bus driver, Roman, was entertaining and provided lots of information throughout the day. We were one of the last groups picked up in San Francisco so I'm not sure how long the pick-up process takes, but I imagine some people might have been on the bus for close to an hour before leaving the city.

If you want to have a fairly quick visit (1 hour on your own) to Muir Woods, a tour is the way to go since transportation is provided and you don't have to concern yourself with parking. One hour is enough time to do the 1-mile loop at a very leisurely pace but not enough time to go off on your own up the mountain.

We visited 3 wineries - 2 in Sonoma, 1 in Napa (on the border between Napa/Sonoma). The wineries were nice to see and the wines were adequate but none of the wines really wowed us. The tour stops for lunch in Sonoma Plaza and there are ample eating establishments for lunch. A handful of people on our tour did the optional gourmet lunch but most did their own thing. We had made reservations far in advance for The Girl and The Fig (reservations are absolutely necessary for this restaurant if you are time constrained on a tour) and our lunch was the highlight of the day, even though we were fairly rushed to get through in around an hour (explain to the server that you are rushed).

If we had more time in San Francisco, we may have done tours that were Muir Woods one day and wine country on a separate day, but since we had constraints, we packed it all in to one day. I would go on this tour again and recommend it.

We had a great time traveling through Muir Woods and wine country!! If you have a limited time in San Fancisco this is the way to see all the sites! Kimmy was a great tour guide and provided many interesting facts during the trip. The upgraded lunch was well worth it! Highly recommending this day trip!

The tour was great and our driver/guide Roman was excellent. Very funny and informative. We started at Muir Woods which was our favorite part of the tour. The Redwoods were huge and the forest so peaceful and serene. The 1st winery was a bit underwhelming kind of a warehouse but their wine was pretty good. The other two vineyards were a more of what we envisioned. Lunch was a bit tight but Roman recommender a good place and they went out their way to accommodate everyone that came even though others were there as well.
