What You Can Expect

San Francisco Super Saver: Muir Woods & Wine Country w/optional Gourmet Lunch

Enjoy wine tasting at three California wineries

Muir Woods National Monument tour:
Hotel pickup in San Francisco starts early for the drive north across the Golden Gate Bridge, meaning you’ll reach Muir Woods before many other tours arrive. On your way out of the city, see the Palace of Fine Arts and the Presidio.

Muir Woods National Monument is home to a pristine forest of California coastal redwoods, which are some of the planet’s tallest and oldest trees with heights that can reach 250 feet (76 meters). You have about one hour here to wander through the grove of trees with your guide, who will tell you about the local vegetation and wildlife along the nature trail while you walk over mossy streams. Then return to the tour vehicle for the drive further north into wine country.

Wine country tour:
When you reach your first winery in Sonoma County’s Carneros region, you can explore the grounds, enjoy photo ops of the vineyard and sample a variety of wines in a welcoming atmosphere. For lunch, guests can choose one of two lunch options. The first is to venture out on their own and try one of the many cafés and restaurants located in the plaza. The second option is to upgrade their wine country experience to the next level with a private seated gourmet food and wine pairing experience at a local restaurant. They will enjoy delicious local food paired with a collection of California wines. After being greeted with Sonoma Valley cheeses and sparkling wine, guests may select a course such as tomato bisque, pasta with almond-arugula pesto and grated pecorino romano or grilled salmon with seasonal vegetables and balsamic reduction.

Afterward, continue your tour to your second and third wineries in Sonoma County or Napa County for more tastings. Total time at each winery is about one hour, and you’ll have the chance to taste five to 10 wines of different varietals, from white to red to sparkling. Tasting fees are included, and you may purchase bottles to take home, if you wish. See below for a sample of wineries you may visit.

Your day trip ends with the drive back across the Golden Gate Bridge. Admire views of the vast Pacific and the rugged coastline before hotel drop-off.

A very enjoyable full day trip away from the hustle of San Fransisco. Our driver and guide was very good and gave a full narrative on the way out of the city. The trip arrived at Muir Woods very early so we missed the crowds, who were just starting to arrive as we were leaving on the next leg of our tour. Muir Woods were amazing, so quiet and still after a few days in the city.

Once we were out in to the wine country the weather also changed. Dont forget your sunglasses. We were taken to 3 different wineries and were given plenty of tastings in each with the staff there also giving an explanation of how their wines were made and how they would taste different due location. This was a great tour and Im very pleased I took it.

The day was wonderful with many beautiful vistas, good wines and comfortable rides. Beginning at Muir Woods was perfect. We were there ahead of the crowds and were able to really appreciate the beauty and the silence of this incredible place. The town of Sonoma was fun to explore and the restaurants were plentiful and yummy!. I highly recommend this day out and about!

We had Roman as our tour guide and he was fantastic. His knowledge of San Francisco was incredible as well as his witty humor. The group I went with all had a great time on this excursion. We had so much fun that we decided to booked another Viator tour to Yosemite National Park.

The tour and Anthony our tour guide and driver were really awesome. The first leg of the trip took us on a drive across the Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Woods, where we walked trails engulfed in the majestic splendor of massive redwood trees. Anthony expertly navigated our vehicle out of Muir Woods to our next destination, a boutique winery in Sonoma Valley. After an enjoyable and relaxing wine tasting session, we were off to another small winery in Napa Valley, for another wine tasting. Then it was time for a pleasant lunch in Sonoma, a small, quaint town, filled with shops, restaurants and more wine tasting. Anthony gave us a good tip, telling us where to get free samples of cheese and chocolate at our lunch stop. After lunch we were taken to our final winery in Sonoma, enjoying more wine tasting. All three wineries were staffed with friendly, knowledgeable people who were proud of their wines and eager for us to taste them. Last, but not least, we made a final stop, overseeing a breathtaking view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city. Overall, this was an outstanding tour and a memorable experience.
