This was by far one of our most memorable trips taken. The boat and Captain Joe and Naturalist Carol were the one's that made this voyage spectacular. My only recommendation would be to go no later than December to see more whales.
the crew was spectacular! went over and above to make sure all passengers were getting the perfect experience. would surely recommend this to anyone visiting San Francisco.
This trip was amazing. The tour guide and captain were very friendly. We did not expect to see humpbacks whales getting close the boat as they did. Will definitely do this tour again.
Most tours don't guarantee actually seeing a whale, think about Ahab looking for Moby Dick! But this tour, concentrated on being sure we caught sight of a hump back! Not only that, they had a professional ecologist that pointed out all kinds of bird and sea life.
We saw 2 humpback whales breech near our boat, several seals playing off the Farallon Islands, bio-luminescent jellyfish changing color just 10' from our boat, and the never seen Blue-Footed Booby bird nesting on the Farallon Islands. They have only been found in Latin America and other tropical regions but never in the U.S, so the Marine Biologist tour guide was like a kid in a candy store. It was a lot of fun. I do recommend eating and bringing ginger snaps or candies in bulk or Dramamine to prevent having to use the "Ralph Reserve" on the back of the boat, LOL. Fortunately, we planned ahead and did not get sea sick. Enjoy your outing.
Loved the tour. Nice boat, confident captain, great guide, lady (terrible with names, sorry!) You will learn a lot about wildlife of the area, she also has pictures and handouts. Beautiful ride, lots of opportunities to spot wildlife (although with wildlife - you can never guarantee what you might and might not see). We saw some porpoises, 2 whales (well, their fountins and occasionally a fin). Apparently a Great White shark season starts end of September, so there is a chance of spotting a great white shark near the Farallon islands.
Would not recommend this to people prone to sea sickness, you might not enjoy this trip as much, it gets rather choppy as you leave the bay and traverse into the open ocean. Other comments: wear sunscreen, bathrooms may get bad, courtesy of your fellow tourists. Do not stand behind a person who is not feeling well, you might get caught off guard.
Too bad we didn't see whales and weather was not the best but marine biologist, captain and crew were awesome. The biologist kept us informed all the way through and captain was so informative too and motivated the people about to be sick on boat. Awesome job Joe!!!!
Excellent tour, staff were great. We saw humpback whales, sea lions, porpose. We definetly recommend this tour
Carla, the marine biologist, made this whale watching cruise very enjoyable and informative. Even though the waters appeared a little rough, the Captain made this a smooth sail. AND we did see whales, as well as other marine life.
Great crew, fantastic experience. Having well informed staff and a marine biologist there to answer all our questions was great.
Unfortunately it was a quiet day at sea, but the captain persevered and we all looked out for wildlife, We headed further out to sea and suddenly whales surfaced right in front of the boat!
I have been on many site seeing trips. If they say they are 3 hours they are just 3 hours. Our trip left around 8:30-8:45 and we didn't get back until 3:30-4:00! The first few hours I wasn't sure if we would see anything, and I was getting very disappointed ... then, we say a BLUE WHALE, a few Hump Backs, and a Black Footed Albatross! It was amazing! The pictures are unbelievable!
Fantastic! With sightings of Humpbacks and Porpoises! Delightful crew and a wonderful cold, foggy ride! A must do in San Francisco!
We got to see 6 whales, although 4 of them were quite shy! Got pictures of one of the gray whales and it's fluke! The weather was wonderful, about 72, albeit, we could only go out 17 miles instead of 27-37 miles, as the waters further out were too rough for our catamaran! But it was an amazing adventure, a must do!!
Very good experience. Good guide, good captain. Viator could have said up front that there was no food provided and that there were snacks to buy on board and what kind. Viator people weren't helpful with retreaving my confirmation number but the actual staff on the boat were stellar.
