Your day trip starts with hotel pickup in San Francisco or by meeting at the tour office at Fisherman's Wharf for the drive out of the city, which takes you across the Golden Gate Bridge. Enjoy the scenery from the window of your coach as you travel through Marin County and into the winemaking areas of Sonoma Valley and Napa Valley.
First up is Madonna Estate, a winery in the Carneros region. Take a guided tour to learn about the Bartolucci family's winemaking practices, combining traditional and contemporary techniques to make wine from organically grown grapes. Then head to your second stop, Sutter Home Winery, founded in 1948; this is one of the largest independent family-run wineries in the United States. During your tour and wine tasting here, learn about the flavors of varietals such as white zinfandel.
Next, visit the town of Sonoma for free time at Sonoma Plaza (or you might visit Yountville instead). You can shop, browse galleries, and have lunch at one of several restaurants (own expense unless upgrade option selected when booking; this option includes an appetizer, main course, and beverage at a place that serves California-inspired dishes such as pasta, seafood, and sandwiches).
After this break, continue your day tour to your third stop, Sebastiani Vineyards and Winery, which focuses on small-batch premium wines. Learn a bit about the appellations of Sonoma County during a tasting with a winemaker. Your tour then ends with the drive back across the Golden Gate Bridge to San Francisco for hotel drop-off.
