What To Expect

One of the most-visited parks in the United States, Yosemite National Park is famed for its wild beauty and massive natural attractions. After morning pickup at your San Francisco hotel (selected hotels only), cruise across the new San Francisco Bay Bridge and through historic Gold Rush towns as the urban bustle gives way to the rugged landscape of the Sierra Nevada.

When you arrive at the park, stretch your legs at Tuolumne Grove with a hike among some of the oldest and largest trees in the world (weather permitting). Crane your neck to see the top of the giant sequoia trees, including a tunneled-out tree large enough to drive a car through.

Continue on to Tunnel View for an unbeatable view of Yosemite’s photogenic valley framed by the giant granite formations of Half Dome and El Capitan. Look for expert rock climbers trying to scale the world-class cliffs and, in springtime, watch the thundering cascade of Yosemite Falls.

Enjoy some free time to explore the park on your own. Rent a bike and cruise along the flat paths of Yosemite Valley (not included), hike to a nearby waterfall or visit the Ansel Adams Gallery to see some of the most famous images of the park ever captured on film. Lunch options include a picnic on the Merced River or a casual meal at the Yosemite Lodge (own expense). Reconnect with your guide at the appointed time, and relax on the scenic drive back to San Francisco.

Please note: The weather in Yosemite is highly variable and includes rain and snow in winter and high temperatures in summer. The itinerary may be adapted to make the most of Yosemite during different seasons and times of the year. The giant sequoias are best visited between May and October. During the rest of the year, snow and ice conditions may prevent access to roads and trails, and other activities may be substituted.

San Francisco Bay Bridge (Pass By)

The San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge, known locally as the Bay Bridge, is a complex of bridges spanning San Francisco Bay in California. As part of Interstate 80 and the direct road between San Francisco and Oakland, it carries about 260,000 vehicles a day on its two decks.

Sierra Nevada (Pass By)

The Sierra Nevada is a mountain range in the Western United States, between the Central Valley of California and the Great Basin.

We had high hopes for the trip due to so many good reviews and it did not disappoint! Our tour guide Brad really made the trip for us. It is a long drive from San Francisco but he kept us entertained on the journey with the history of the towns we drove through which were really interesting. He spoke with enthusiasm and kept us all engaged. It is a long day but we had stops on the way there and the way back in Oakdake to grab some food which broke the journey up. Also the views on the journey are amazing as you drive through mountains. Yosemite itself is absolutely beautiful and out of our 10 day trip (we are from the UK and travelled from San Francisco down to L.A.) we felt this was our favourite day. We hiked a trail to see some giant sequoias and we had a stop for lunch which gave you plenty of time to eat and do some exploring of your own. We also had a few short stops after that of some photo worthy views like seeing El Capitan. We contemplated driving to Yosemite ourselves as we had a car but we definitely made the right decision to book the day trip instead as we didn’t have to worry about where we would see the best views etc. and learnt so much on the journey.

Thanks for sharing about your incredible trip to Yosemite the other day. Brad loves showing off this incredible park and looks forward to having you again in the future. Travel well!
Yosemite tour is a Must Do!!!
Jennifer_M, Jul 2022
Our guide, Roman, was very knowledgeable about the history of the CA area and shared with us as we passed through each part. He gave us time to explore Yosemite so we never felt like we had to rush to see the sights. He allowed us to stop several times to take advantage of the breathtaking views in Yosemite. Roman was very flexible on the tour to find places to stop to eat or use the restroom, as the group needed. During our tour, several unexpected things popped up & Roman handled it gracefully & never let it affect the tour. He remained positive, adding humor to the “bumps in the road”. I’ve been on many tours throughout the US and overseas and this ranks at the top. It is a long day from San Francisco so be sure to listen to the tips of the guide and bring walking/hiking shoes, the recommended food & water, camera and a great attitude. The beauty of Yosemite is beyond words so it’s a tour you should add to your must do list if you are in CA. Our tour guide, Roman, made the beauty of Yosemite easy to access, understand the history & lots of fun. A must do!!!

We booked the trip and travelled from San Francisco. Driver was the very expert Denise, not only is she a great driver but enhances the trip with astounding knowledge and tips on what to look for. You get to see El Capitan and waterfalls, as well as great places for photo opportunities. Highly recommended.

Great Experience
Peyton_H, Mar 2022
The trip was overall great. Denise was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and passionate about the subjects. Further, she was very helpful with other recommendations of things to do in and around the San Francisco area. Our driver, Ken, was great as well. The trip is every bit of 14-16 hours long, with much of that being on a bus. If that is for you, 10/10 would recommend.
Response from Host, Mar 2022
Thanks for the nice review and joining us on our tour to Yosemite last week. Denise enjoyed talking with you on the tour. Travel well!
Great Winter Adventure!
Gautham_M, Dec 2021
The day trip to Yosemite from San Francisco was a great experience! The tour company, extranomical tours, did a fantastic job with all the planning and preparation for the tour. Our guide Alberto made sure we managed to visit as many places as possible within the park and kept us on schedule. We managed to get a lot of out the day even with weather and road closure challenges. Would 100% recommend the trip and extranomical tours!
Response from Host, Jan 2022
Sounds like a perfect day...we'll so happy to hear that. We'll let Alberto know you enjoy your trip with him. All the best!
This is the one!
Sharon_S, Nov 2022
Was in San Francisco for a conference and had just 1 extra day. This trip was a great way to maximize that day! It was a very full day - 6:30 am pick up and 9:30 pm drop off, but wouldn’t have wanted any less! Our tour guide Rob did a great job of pointing out the best photo ops at each stop, and also of coaching us to stay on schedule to maximize the experience. He even shared his phone number with the group in case we got lost, which was a nice failsafe. On the trip back he played Free Solo to help kill time and connect us to Yosemite and El Capitan. The tour was a good mix of walk/hiking time and rest time viewing from the bus in between, so works better for all regardless of fitness level - it could be as much of a workout as you wanted. It was a great experience!
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Thanks for taking the time to review your tour experience. Rob loves showing off Yosemite...especially first timers! Travel safely home.
Memorable experience
Laura_P, Oct 2022
I would give this a 4 star rating! We would have liked more time at first stop in Yosemite. Hard to enjoy the walk down to see the Giant Sequoias and make it back in 90 min. Felt rushed! Loved not having to personally drive and our driver, Gino did a great job getting us there and back safely! I will say I closed my eyes a lot! Hehe! It is a long day with a lot of riding which we expected! I am not certain if we would do it again just because going on our own may have allowed us more time in the places we wanted to see closer!
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Thanks so much for your recommendation. It's no secret that it takes a while to get to Yosemite from San Francisco but it is sure worth it...and nice that it can be experienced in one day. All the best!
A view worth the journey!
Joanne_O, Oct 2022
The National Park is one of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever visited- definitely worth the long day trip! Deliberately chose this trip as wanted to see the Sequoias. In reality you don’t have very long for this part as you are at 6000m altitude abd have to walk a mile downhill (easy!) then a mile uphill (not so easy!), about 400m elevation gain. Our guide, Roman, was clear about the challenge and timeframe so you could choose whether to go or not. The stop at North Point for the first view of El Cap and Half Dome is something I’ll never forget. Roman was clearly so knowledgeable about the park and where to take the best photos and get the best views. He bought binoculars so we could see the climbers which was great. All in all a well planned out day with lots of stops packed in and enough time walking the trails as well. Roman was a fantastic guide.
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Thanks for taking the time to review your experience with us. Roman really enjoys showing off Yosemite, especially El Cap and its climbers. Thanks and travel safely home.

Maricor_E, Oct 2022
We enjoyed the awesome views and easy hiking options. Unfortunately, the waterfalls didn't have much water.
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Thanks for your review. see the waterfalls at their peak, April and May are pretty good bets. Thankfully, the granite monuments and nature trails in the valley are on full display all year round!
Just a Glimpse of Yosemite
Ginneson_W, Sep 2022
Amazing and breathtaking views. Wish we had stayed more days though to have a more emersive experience. We just saw the tip of the iceberg, but could have more activities given more time. Great for nature lovers, hikers and climbers.
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Thanks for taking the time to review your Yosemite tour. Now that you've had a taste...come back and do an overnight with us!
Great memories
Constantin_D, Sep 2022
Great experience. Be ready for a full day. We left at 6.40 and returned after 9. The drive itself is great with some excellent windy roads. The sequoia trees are imoressive and the valley is monumental. The time was not great as the rivers were low and the falls were not running.
Response from Host, Sep 2022
Great to hear you had a great experience. Yosemite is incredible. For next time, April and May are the time to see the falls at the peak. But every season has its pluses.
Great tour

Victorian_P, Aug 2022
A superb trip to Yosemite and to see the giant Sequoias. The guide, Ben was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of interesting information along the way not just in the park. The itinerary was great with time spent in key places with lots of opportunities for photos and time to admire the stunning scenery. This was well worth the money.
Response from Host, Aug 2022
Thanks for taking the time to write us a review. Ben enjoyed having you on his tour. Travel well!
