Combo Tour - Best of Costa Rica from San Jose

Visit La Paz Waterfall Gardens

If you have limited time for sightseeing in Costa Rica, get a diverse taste of the country’s natural beauty with this packed full-day tour. After early morning pickup at your San Jose hotel in a luxury air-conditioned coach, enjoy an on-board breakfast and steaming cup of Costa Rican coffee. Stop for a guided nature hike among the mountains outside of San Jose, where you can enjoy the lush scenery and try to spot local wildlife.

Continue on to the Doka Estate coffee plantation, where the same family has been growing and roasting coffee beans for generations. Tour the beautiful, 350-acre (141-hectare) estate, where rich volcanic soil makes an ideal growing coffee-growing climate. Learn how beans are cultivated, harvested and roasted, and sample an aromatic cup of Doka’s signature brew.

Your next stop is Poás Volcano National Park, home to the still-active Poás Volcano that reaches an impressive 8,884 feet (2,708 meters) above sea level. Take a short hike to the edge of the volcanic crater for breathtaking views into the smoking cauldron below, and admire the sky-blue Botos Lake that fills a neighboring, dormant crater.

After descending from the volcanoes, head to the lovely La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a private nature reserve that boasts miles of scenic hiking trails and more than 100 species of native wildlife housed in various habitats. Meet some of Costa Rica’s tiniest winged creatures at the Hummingbird Garden and Butterfly Observatory, and get an up-close encounter with reptilian residents at the frog exhibit and serpentarium. Soak up the lush tropical scenery with a riverside hike, stopping to admire one of the many cascading waterfalls along the way.

Indulge in a tasty lunch of traditional Costa Rican cuisine, and then relax on the beautiful drive back to San Jose, where you’ll be dropped off back at your hotel in the afternoon.

At first I was a little skeptical about tour. However, my tour was beyond my expectation. The tour guide and driver were one of the most welcoming and amazing people I and #39;ve met. I and #39;m from NY. To my fellow American traveler, always say thank you, be on time and tip like we always do at home. - Elliott A

We were told that you often don't get to see the crater because of the clouds, but it was a perfectly clear day and it was one of the most breathtaking views I have ever seen. The La Paz Water Gardens are extremely beautiful. We only had two days in Costa Rica so this was a perfect tour. Highly Recommend it.

This tour was amazing! The guide was awesome!! He made sure that the whole tour was fully detailed in English and Spanish. The weather didn and #39;t want to cooperate, but despite that, totally worth it! They even stopped during our bus ride to show us a roadside sloth. So cool! Highly recommended!!

The tour was awesome, they picked my up right outside the hotel I was staying at and as soon as everyone was picked up the tour guide got everyone in the spirit to be traveling about. We started at the Doka coffee farm had breakfast drank some of their best coffee and learned about how the plants produce, before eating some chocolate covered coffee beans. Even though it was rainy season we were able to see everything even the Poas volcano which can be hard to see later in the day. My favorite part was the hike through the water gardens at the end. It wasn't too strenuous and the views were amazing.

What a fantastic tour. The bus picked us up and it fits around 20-30 people, so I was slightly worried at the size of the tour. But not for long. Mauricio was our guide and he was incredible. Very funny, charismatic guide. He made the bus ride, which is about an hour to the first stop, seem like nothing. He would often have our driver pull over for us to take pictures with the view.

Our first stop was the coffee plantation. As a coffee lover, it was very neat to see the plants, the facility, and hear the process the beans go through. The coffee was good, not great. We bought a few bags and brought them home - pretty reasonable prices. They served us breakfast here which I don't think was mentioned in the description of the tour - pleasant surprise.

Next was the volcano. It's neat, but can often be obscured by clouds rolling in. We were lucky enough to get to the volcano right before the clouds completely covered it. The clouds move quickly though, so be patient if you cannot see it right away.

After this, we headed to the waterfall/nature reserve. We first started by touring the nature reserve. Got to hold a bird, look at some monkeys, and walk through a snake exhibit. From there, we had lunch which was buffet style. Not the best food, but we were hungry. From there, we went to see the jungle cats. Finally, we toured the waterfalls. This was my favorite part. Gorgeous, gorgeous views. Be sure to take a camera along because you'll want to snap a ton of pictures. Be warned though, the hike up and down is a bit of a strenuous one!

Overall, this tour was amazing - can't recommend this one enough. It will take up most of your day, but is well worth it. We had an absolute blast and feel like we got to see a good amount of Costa Rica within just a day.
