We had a nice hike through the forest. Waterfall was popular, even in the offseason.
This tour was fantastic! Omar was the absolute BEST! He was incredibly knowledgable, gracious, friendly, accommodating, and fun! We had a Great time and there was SO much to see and experience. When I come back to San Juan, I will do this again and add the kayaking in the bioluminescent bay to my tour. I can't wait!!
Alex is an excellent guide. He is friendly, responsible and caring. He knows a lot about botanic. I am a biologist, and Alex has a great biology background. He is knowledgeable about the rain forest ecosystem, fauna and flora. Outstanding performance.
Our tour started with a pick up at our hotel from our tour guide Norma around 10am. She was so friendly and extremely informative. We headed to the El Yunque visitor center where Norma showed us around then we drove to the hike. It was not difficult but wear sneakers because you will walk a lot and some of it uphill. Bring that camera! The best part was the waterfall...it was crowded but what an experience! Bring water shoes and be careful with the rocks. Norma brought us to Yokahu tower where we climbed to the top not very high and enjoyed the views. We then had a fantastic Puerto Rican lunch at a nice little restaurant and they even had a vegetarian option. Norma got us back to our hotel around 5:30pm. It was a long but wonderful tour and would definitely do it again.
This was a truly a unforgettable and amazing adventure from start to finish was incredible and well-executed and thoughtful. Everyone knows Jaime...truly everywhere we stopped people would yell out his name and come give him a hug and chat with him. I don't believe I have ever met a more down-to-earth and kind human being. He is extremely knowledgeable about anything and everything in Puerto Rico. I would highly recommend Jaime to anyone going to Puerto Rico. You are not only going to get a tour guide, but you are going to gain a true friend!
This tour was booked for my son and daughter-in-law. They were changed to a similar one because there were not enough people going. They had an amazing time with their tour guide Luis J Pantoja. Along with having a great time, they learned so much about forest/ Puerto Rico history and enjoyed it! They would like to do another tour with this guide.
The rainforest is beautiful and Norma, our guide, was fantastic, She was punctual, personable and very knowledgeable. We could not have asked for a better guide. The van was absolutely spotless. Norma picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel, just as promised.
Although it takes a while to get from San Juan to the rainforest 45 min?, it was a pleasant drive and gives you an opportunity to see more of the island.
The tour itself hits the highlights of the park: the visitor center, hiking trails, waterfalls and lookout tower. The forest and waterfalls are beautiful and the views from the lookout tower are absolutely amazing. The US Parks Service does a great job of maintaining the park, it is clean and well maintained.
We left San Juan at 8:30 am and got back to our hotel about 4 pm. Norma took us to a local restaurant after the tour. The restaurant was small, we were the only group there so it was private dining! Food and service were great, true Puerto Rican food and very reasonable.
We would love to go back and explore on our own as we now know what to expect.
A word of caution, the trails in the rainforest are narrow. uneven and steep in sections. Not a true hard core hike but if you are limited physically, it could be a challenge.
We look forward to returning to Puerto Rico to explore more of the beautiful island.
I had such a great time with Omar! Pack a poncho and water shoes. I didnt do that and wished I had. I followed him down to the hidden away waterfall and it was amazing. The rest of the group went on to the main waterfall but he didnt rush me and the two others. That was the best part of the day!!
Had a wonderful day with new friends enjoying the scenery and hiking the Rainforest. This should be on everyone's list when visiting Puerto Rico. Loved the added bonus of enjoying local cuisine.
Had a great guide Alicia, I think who provided much info on the island and the Rainforest. We enjoyed the hiking, waterfalls, etc. Was a relaxing, no rush day. Lunch at the 'local' stop was a great experience and the food was great! Would highly recommend this tour.
First-rate guide, amazing day. Although no rain in the rainforest this day made the hike a bit less slippery, the flora, the fauna, the waterfall -- all made for a lovely day. Do swim over to the waterfall if you can - it's worth it. Transportation was comfortable and efficient, and the late lunch location was wonderful. Strongly recommended.
Great Day with lots of walking and getting an amazing tour from our knowledgeable guide. This is a beautiful place and the walk to the waterfall was wonderful. Our guide stopped along the way to tell us facts and information that you would not know unless you were doing a tour. I was nervous that the walk would be too strenuous, but I made it through.
This was one trip we won and #39;t ever forget! The trip to Yunque is probably our favorite activity in PR. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, informative and clearly loved Yunque. The time spent in on each path was sufficient and the food in Boricuba (not included in price) was delicious.
The trip to Yunque was a great experience. Our guide Alicia was amazing! Not only did she just show us around but actually took the time to really let us experience the beauty of the rainforest. Everything from the history and detailed explanations of what we were seeing to showing the real miracles of this place. And always with great energy and humour. The waterfalls and the nature here is incredible. Highly recommended.
The trip to and my hike through El Yunque rainforest was most enjoyable. Very personable guide - well-informed with wide-ranging knowledge of the area - flora and fauna and culture. I was born in a tropical country with rainforests this excursion added to my knowledge base. Beyond anyone's control but still lamentable - the lack of birds and their song no animals sighted. But the air and water were pure. A person can imagine birds flitting amidst the canopy and animals hiding in the vegetation.
Be sure to wear the recommended footwear as the steps and the ground, often soggy/slick/uneven, could be precarious especially for older hikers like myself. Enjoy the coolness and power of the waterfall standing on the bridge or perhaps dip a finger or two in its waters but leave the swimming to the younger folk! Fitness is a plus since the walk ascends and descends throughout its course
I add this hike as a highlight in my whole visit to Puerto Rico - a beautiful/wild contrast to the urbanization of the island.
My El Yunque Rainforest excursion was led by a friendly and knowledgeable guide, Tony Caliz, who grew up in a village at the base of the forest. El Yunque was beautiful and included stops at two magnificent waterfalls. It rained much of the time we were there, which prevented us from seeing more animals, though we did see birds, lizards, and snails. The main trail took us about two hours to walk--a bit longer than usual, partly because it was raining and we had to go slower, partly because there was a lot of foot traffic. The tour also included stops at a visitor's center and an observation tower, the latter of which afforded beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and San Juan in the distance. Tony took us to an excellent Puerto-Rican/Cuban restaurant for lunch after our hike. I've toured the Brazilian rainforest outside of Rio and would compare this tour favorably to that one. Highly recommended.
Forest was awesome and guide was great. He had to work through a traffic issue but delivered.
Phenomenal trip and particularly the guide. Knew the secret locations away from the other tourists. Very flexible in agenda. Daryl and Amy
Great tour! Our guide ALEX was amazing...so knowledgeable and organized
The adventure to the rainforest was more than I expected. I was a little concerned that the hiking would be difficult since we are senior citizens. Our guide was the best. He picked us up promptly at the designated time then proceeded to gather up other guest. We drove out of town and stopped at a roadside stand. Had I been on my own, I would have never stopped here but the food and smoothies were amazing. It made a great stop for those that had not had a chance to get breakfast or those wanting a snack before we got to the park. My son ordered half of a chicken and snacked on it throughout the day. We drove to the visitors center and the guide gave us a great introduction to the plants and animals of the rainforest. We also had a bathroom break at this point. We then left the visitors center and drove to a trail to begin our hike. We were blessed with perfect weather for our hike. We hiked about an hour on a paved trail that got a little uneven at times but the hike was easy and beautiful. The guide stopped about every ten minutes to teach us interesting facts about the plants and ecosystem of the rainforest. There were quite a few steps down to the first waterfall but again it was paved and had arm rails. The waterfall was beautiful and several in our group got into the water. We stayed there about 30 minutes while our guide went back and got the van and moved it to another parking lot. We followed a shorter, easier, paved path out of the waterfall to where the guide had moved the van. The hike in and out was very nice. We then proceeded to a tower with a great view over the island. There were about 60 steps to the top of the tower but well worth the climb. After this we drove to two other waterfalls. The second waterfall involved a short less than 5 minutes steep climb over rocks and roots. Just take your time, climb carefully and it's not a problem. This waterfall is also beautiful and you are allowed to swim in the pool at the base if you like. We then drove to the third and most impressive waterfall. This waterfall involves not walking as it is along the side of the road. After some great photos opportunities our trip to the rainforest was over and the guide drove us down the mountains to a great local restaurant on the beach. We all ate a late lunch or early dinner and had some drinks. After this great meal the driver drove each of us right to the door of our houses since it was such a small groups and we lived along the return routes. Thanks for a great day and a great adventure.
Fantastic tour with beautiful views, lush greenery, fragrant flowers, and free-flowing waterfalls. Great guide who was passionate about sharing his deep knowledge of the rainforest and its preservation efforts. While it's possible to rent a car and hike some trails on your own, I highly recommend a guide to traverse the winding, narrow park roads and maximize your time. For example, our guide dropped us off at the parking lot trail-head for the main waterfall and picked us up at another parking lot to allow us more time to take a dip in the falls and see more of the forest on a different trail on the way out. On your own, you'd need to hike down to the falls and then back-track the trail the way you came uphill - on a rainy or hot day to return to your car. The local restaurant, friendly service, and fresh fish dinner at the end of the tour was a highlight of our Puerto Rico stay and one of our favorite meals -- the mojitos at your own expense were also an excellent finishing touch! Just an fyi, the tour may seem to start slow at the Visitor Center, but there is plenty of time to soak in the beauty and wonder of this majestic site once you get out and about. Highly recommend, don't miss it!
