What You Can Expect

El Yunque Rainforest Half-Day Trip from San Juan

La Coca Falls

Explore the only tropical rainforest in the United States National Forest system on this half-day trip. Walk the park’s nature trails, surrounded by tree orchids, giant ferns and wildflowers, as you venture to a camera-worthy collection of waterfalls and panoramic vistas in northeast Puerto Rico.

Start your day with pickup around 7:45am from select hotels in San Juan. Then drive from San Juan to El Yunque, admiring the typical native towns and changing scenery as you ascend higher into the rainforest. This ecosystem is named after the ancient Indian spirit Yuquiyu, who was  believed to have once reigned over all of Puerto Rico, protecting the island and its people.

Begin an easy walk on one of the park's trails, keeping an eye out for any of the area’s wildlife. Make your way along paths thick with tree orchids, giant ferns, wild flowers and tropical hardwood trees, and stop by La Coca Waterfall.

Then make your way back to San Juan, arriving back at your hotel in the early afternoon around 1:15pm.

Fun tour. A drive through the rainforest and we stopped periodically for photos and a little rock climbing to get closer to the falls. Ricky was our guide, very informative, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Our trip to the rainforest was amazing. Ricky our tour guide was the best! From the moment he picked us up at the resort, we knew we were going to be taken care of. He offered us water for the ride and asked us if one of us wanted to drive with him in the front for car-sickness issues. Our ride to the rainforest was great as we didn't know we were going to get a history lesson on the island and the current situations that are happening. My husband is a history buff so it was perfect for him. Ricky also went out of his way to show us the amazing animals we could find in the forest and would not stop until he found the coqui, in which we were all excited for! It was a great trip. Should we had had more time on the island, we would've done the full day tour for sure!

This was my favorite part of the trip. Our guide Ricky was amazing. He was very knowledgable and went out of his way to find the creatures of the forest (i.e. stick bug, tree frog, etc). The tour was never rushed, it a casual and #34;mini hike. This tour is a must.

The Rainforest Tour was excellent. The tour guide was knowledgeable of the plants, trees, flowers and history and made sure all guests were taken care of. It rained quite a bit, as it is the rainy season, but it did not take away from the beautiful scenery and enjoyable sites and walks. I would highly recommend this tour, it is a good value for money.

Juan was a fun tour guide. His humor, knowledge, and genuine interest made the tour. If you are lucky to visit the forest on a clear day, you will be rewarded with beautiful views. This is an easy tour for people who aren't into hiking through the rainforest but still want to see everything.
