What You Can Expect

El Yunque Rainforest Half-Day Trip from San Juan

La Coca Falls

Explore the only tropical rainforest in the United States National Forest system on this half-day trip. Walk the park’s nature trails, surrounded by tree orchids, giant ferns and wildflowers, as you venture to a camera-worthy collection of waterfalls and panoramic vistas in northeast Puerto Rico.

Start your day with pickup around 7:45am from select hotels in San Juan. Then drive from San Juan to El Yunque, admiring the typical native towns and changing scenery as you ascend higher into the rainforest. This ecosystem is named after the ancient Indian spirit Yuquiyu, who was  believed to have once reigned over all of Puerto Rico, protecting the island and its people.

Begin an easy walk on one of the park's trails, keeping an eye out for any of the area’s wildlife. Make your way along paths thick with tree orchids, giant ferns, wild flowers and tropical hardwood trees, and stop by La Coca Waterfall.

Then make your way back to San Juan, arriving back at your hotel in the early afternoon around 1:15pm.

The pickup was at a hotel a block from our hotel. Not a problem! The guide was informative and loved his job. I would recommend this half-day trip to everyone!

This half-day trip was exactly what we needed. There was not as much walking as one would expect. We drove to different locations throughout the rainforest and got out to take pictures and hear about the plant origins. The scenery is beautiful and it feels so serene. Our tour guide was wonderful and very personable. I would go on this tour again.

My tour guide was a very kind, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable man. My only regret is I didn't have more time on the tour!

Our tour guide picked us up at our hotel on time. After picking up the rest of the passengers we headed east to El Yunque rainforest. He did a very good job of explaining the history of the region and the park. We stopped at several locations to lookout or observe waterfalls or ponds and the foliage. He explained how to tell if it going to rain when a particular tree turns it leaves over revealing a white side it is going to rain, if does not do this you should not worry about the rain.We had only a brief shower and the rest of the time it was only cloudy.

The scenery was beautiful. We hope to go back another time on our own and explore the area further. The guide was very knowledgeable about PR history and about the rainforest.
