Wear closed toe shoes and don't expect paved trails. Guide was extremely knowledgeable and trip was enjoyable. Would definitely go again.
This truly was an amazing experience. Our guide, Alex, was wonderful. He was very knowledgeable about the forest and was always willing to answer our questions. The hike into the forest was the best part, especially the last waterfall. The market where we ate was very yummy, especially the smoothies. The rock slide was also a lot of fun and a great way to finish the day. Overall it was the best part of our vacation! Potential participants should note that this is not an easy hike. It is steep and it is slippery. You need to be fit enough to do the hike and you also need appropriate footwear.
Be ready for a hike. Alex was a fantastic tour guide, his knowledge of the rain forest and its wildlife was great. Dont be scared of the natural rock slide its awesome!
This tour is truly an adventure, and highly recommended for those that want to challenge themselves and trek deep into a remote part of the rainforest. Alex was our guide, he was knowledgeable and in our case, very patient. We had a small group of six, and he lead us up a rocky ledge with many challenging hills that at times were muddy and steep. The beauty of the rainforest was a site to see and the view of the waterfalls was breathtaking. The natural rock body slide was fun, but rocks around it were pretty slippery, making it difficult for some that wanted to do it, but couldn't. The return trip was the same way we came, again the slippery mud made it a challenge, a couple of us taking some falls, but everyone worked together and we made it out safely. I want to emphasize how patient Alex was and offered a hand and guidance when we needed it, yet allowed us to experience this intense hiking tour for ourselves. Once the hike was done, Alex took us to other sites within the rainforest that were just as breathtaking, but much easier to get around. For lunch we stopped at a local road side food stand, the food was authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, it was delicious!
Good hiking, sightseeing, fun in the waterfalls and 'rock' slides and much more. Stopped at local lunch spot that was delicious. Our guide, Alejandro, was fantastic and made it a special day for all. Highly recommend.
Very good hiking trip, but much harder than we had expected. The description should list this as a difficult hike and not suitable for some people. There were very slippery steep sections that could be dangerous if you are not careful. That being said, the guide Alex was awesome. He took care of the entire group with professionalism and expertise.
The hike itself was a 1000' assent where we saw 3 waterfalls, lots of vegetation, and a few geckos. You take the same route back down the trail, but this can also be a challenge if it is wet. You were defiantly tired and dirty when this trip was complete. They also provided water bottles which you will defiantly want to carry with you.
Overall it was a great trip, but exercise caution if you are not in good shape and have good balance. Make sure you wear hiking shoes/boots, even though a good walking shoe will probably help. No open toe shoes.
The tour was excellent definitely worth the money. Our tour guide Jaime was EXCELLENT and very informative. We went for my best friend birthday. I definitely recommend Jaime for any tour as a tour guide he will make your experience phenomenal.
This hike was amazing, This is definitely a hike meant for those who are somewhat physically fit. You see some amazing waterfalls and you get the chance to do plenty of swimming in them. Alex was so unbelievably knowledgeable and I hope everyone gets a chance to have Alex as a guide. Highly recommend for those that are physically fit.
MUST DO TOUR!!!! My friends and I had heard that El Yunque was a must while in Puerto Rico. We were afraid that we wouldn't really know where to go if we just tried to go ourselves so we decided to book a tour. Our tour guide's name was Michael, and he was amazing!! From the moment he picked us up we felt extremely comfortable with him, he felt like a friend showing us around town. He was very talkative in a non- intrusive way, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. He answered all of our questions and was very fun and outgoing. We all needed that little push to do things we were scared to do but he made it look so easy and fun that we couldn't help but try, and i'm so glad we did! El Yunque is beautiful! And if you don't know your way around you can easily miss what this place has to offer. Do this tour! And if possible, request Michael!
Michael was absolutely fantastic in picking us up on time and pointing out some history of the area on our drive to El Yunque. However, his passion for Puerto Rico and the rainforest was most obvious once we arrived at the Welcome Center and hiked through some of the most beautiful trails we've ever seen. The waterfalls on these unbeaten paths were simply breathtaking, and we were SO GLAD to have no crowds where he took us!!! Perfect guide during our first trip to PR!!!
This Tour was Amazing, what an experience!! I was not sure what to think, so if that's you listen up: I recommend eating before the tour! we stayed in Ponce so there was not a pick up nearby, so we had to meet at a hotel in San Juan, I recommend wearing some good trek shoes such as keens etc. Me and my BF just wore some nikes and under armour shoes, but socks and all got wet, I would have loved to have had some Keens, I wore my swim suit with board shorts and a tank over. I did take a backpack incase with change of clothes, cheapy sandells, snacks, water, makeup etc. and that's fine but make SURE to leave the backpack IN the van, trust me, you don't want to be carrying much. I did and I regretted it, then my backpack broke and the tour guide carried it for me I also recommend a phone that's waterproof, my bf just left his in the van and we took my iphone, and I have this Kobert waterproof pouch that goes around your neck, which is so nice, so you don't have to worry about losing it. you can easily take pics while its in the pouch, go check out amazon!
Prepare to hike! when we went we did skip the observation tower because it was really foggy, but when we started the hike it began to POUR, which was like omg but all worth it and all apart of the experience! Shout out to Alex ,our tour guide whom was great, very knowledgable and willing to help in any way, it felt like hanging with a buddy for the day. The natural waterslides was amazing, after we didn't go to luquillo, we stopped at a lil place off the road for some real authentic puertorican food. If you have any questions feel free to contact me
Great experience Thank you!!!! :
This trip was alot of fun! Jerry was a great guide, very fun, entertaining, energetic, and informative. He was very accommodating with the pick up and drop off. The hike up the falls was a little steep but a lot of fun. The water slide was a really neat experience. The lunch stop at a local restaurant was delicious and the host was very friendly. Highly recommend this tour!
Amazing tour!! We went to El Yunque with Luis who was a fantastic guide! He has much knowledge which gave us a lot of good information on the tour! The tour included waterfalls, fantastic sights and a lot of fun in a and #39;natural waterslide and #39;! Recommands this!
This was an excellent excursion. Our tour guide Alex was outstanding. If you are thinking about doing this you need to know it really is an all day thing AND it is NOT an easy hike. I'm in pretty decent shape and I found the hike to the top of the waterfall fairly difficult. I wore running sneakers and slipped a few times. If you have actual hiking shoes you will fair better. You will get wet, sweaty and dirty. As long as you are expecting those things going in, you will have an awesome time.
It was a very enjoyable trip that is a bit different from the description. The initial hike was a bit longer than described and we went to two different waterfalls and pools for swimming. This part is very muddy, but really great otherwise and was the highlight for us. The restaurant was great, as described by others. The cliff slide was lots of fun, but certainly different from the description. We did not hike to it, but instead parked at an adjacent house. There was no cliff jump, and the slide ends directly in water, without any fall. Everything was lots of fun, but there was much less hiking than we expected for a hiking adventure.
Our guide was great, the restaurant was absolutely amazing. Just bear in mind it does require a moderate level of activity. My son and I enjoyed it very much but my other child and my husband who are both significantly overweight found it too difficult, through no fault of the tour.
Pleasant and worth the trip. The guides and staff did a good job. The Rain Forest was nice and we had a great day without rain. It could be really muddy and slippery though if it was raining. Disappointed with the rock slide and cliff jump. Said we would slide off into a 10 foot drop and that we could cliff jump 40 feet. This was not an option and it was a 20 foot slide into water, no free fall. Took my go-pro expecting something much bigger.
The tour guide was pretty knowledgeable and the company was pretty helpful - we weren't staying in San Juan and needed transportation, so they arranged at a cost to us for someone from their company to pick us up. We did learn a number of things from our tour guide, but I feel like we could have just gone to the rainforest on our own and been just fine.
The restaurant that we went to after the tour was very good - I enjoyed the excellent customer service and delicious but simple food.
My only complaint was that we were switched to a less expensive tour that didn't include the natural water slides, and never received a refund for the price difference, despite assurances that they would fix it.
