Receive a morning pickup from your Santiago hotel or private residence. From here you’ll travel east of the city and up into the mountains, heading toward the scenic Cajón del Maipo valley. Your guide will select the final trekking location based on the current weather and and snow conditions to ensure a safe day.
After stopping for supplies at a small market en route, you’ll reach your snowshoe hike starting point. Before setting off your mountaineering-equipped guide will explain the proper technique to minimize any unnecessary exertion, and you’ll also be outfitted with trekking poles, gloves, and gaiters.
Spend the next 2.5 hours climbing into the nearby mountains as you proceed to the Aguas Panimavida. This location offers stunning views of nearby snow-capped peaks along with the 15,246-foot (4,467-meter) tall “El Morado” rising in the distance. Pause here for an included box lunch featuring a sandwich, fruit, cereal bar, and juice, enjoying your meal as your guide shares more details about the surrounding area.
Continue back down from where you came and reach your transport. Celebrate your successful snowshoe trip by continuing to San Jose del Maipo town, where you’ll dig into an included snack of Chilean-style empanadas purchased from a rustic local bakery. An included glass of beer or juice helps add to the fun. Then proceed back to Santiago, where you’ll be dropped off at your original pickup site.
