Patty and her husband Enrique live in a gorgeous, sprawling ranch-style home near Lampa, outside of Santiago in the country. Her property boasts fruit and nut trees of every variety (from mandarin to fig, pomegranate to walnut) and a huge vegetable and herb garden. You will be welcomed with open arms and a bottle of Carménere into a house that is both modern and filled with old-world charm. The kitchen is large and modern, with an island that allows everyone to congregate easily.
Patty can offer you a demonstration or teach you in a hands-on lesson – just let her know your preference. She will teach you to make dishes that she and her family love to eat. You will learn to make 1-2 traditional Chilean dishes before sitting down for the meal. As you cook together Patty will tell you about the ingredients she uses and about growing up in the kitchen with her mother and grandmother.
Gather at Patty’s table to enjoy a sumptuous meal of traditional favorites. Patty has a reputation at work for hosting the best dinner parties and soon as anyone at the office finds out Patty is cooking over the weekend, they all try and weasel their way into an invitation in the hopes of tasting her famous pastel de choclo or her husband’s asado! Patty will treat you to a meal of seasonal Chilean dishes using produce from her garden. She might serve pastel de choclo (a casserole similar to shepherd’s pie made with corn and chicken), chupe de mariscos (seafood stew), or cazuela (a typical Chilean soup).
Please note, this is not a professional cooking class, rather this experience is a visit into an authentic, local home to meet a local family and share the culture and cuisine together. Patty has 4 large, friendly Akita dogs that will be kept in a kennel during your visit.
Unless you are renting a car, we suggest taking a taxi/Uber to Patricia's home. You can expect the fare to be about $20000 pesos. Her home is across the street from a church.
