Set out from Santiago aboard an air-conditioned minivan after a morning pickup from your hotel. You’ll proceed southeast toward the Andes, climbing upwards on a mountain off-road path until you arrive in the Cajon del Maipo Valley.

When you get out of the car at 9,843 feet (3000 meters), make sure to take in the region’s stunning scenery, which includes snow-capped mountains, lush orchards and bountiful vineyards within view. Start your exploration of this postcard-perfect area by enjoying a hike around the shores of Embalse el Yeso reservoir, marveling at its turquoise waters and rugged canyons. Your guide will share details about the local area’s geology and ecology as you walk.

Return to your starting point in the valley and settle in for an included picnic lunch amidst these incredible surroundings. You’ll enjoy a selection of Chilean wines accompanied by an array of local products, cheeses, and dried fruits.

Continue the adventure by heading into San Jose del Maipo, the regional capital since 1792. Stroll amidst this charming town’s collection of boutiques and beautiful central square, learn about local folklore, and sample an empanada from a tasty local empanada vendor. After your visit in San Jose del Maipo, return back to Santiago, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel.

It was a fabulous day, made wonderful...

It was a fabulous day, made wonderful by my guide Martin...knowledgeable, friendly, and he really focused on what I wanted to learn on the trip. He stopped to introduce me to the plants of the region, local culture and history, and the nature of the canyon, lake, and mountains. The picnic by the lake was awesome...basking in the warm sunshine and nibbling on the delicious local favorites. It was great to have Martin's lively conversation and I felt he was so positive in every way. I would highly recommend this trip, and especially with Martin as your guide!
