Really interesting tour through sites that the regular traveller wouldn't see by themselves. Andrea was terrific, she really has an empathy with the people in the markets and clearly has a real love of the places and people. The food tasting stops are really good and tasty as well. Thanks!
This was a great way to see the city and eat some places where you would never know to go yourself. The guide was very helpful and had a great sense of humor. We enjoyed the food but the recommendation is to not eat before going on the tour as there is plenty of food.
This was an absolutely fantastic tour taken only by my husband and myself. The guide, Kathy, really went out of her way to answer all of our questions about Santiago, Chile, and more of South America.
We not only discussed foods but history and culture as well.
We were the only ones who signed up for this tour, so it was like having a private tour instead of a small group tour. We enjoyed our time with Kathy Bauerle as we walked around the historical district of Santiago. We started at the Plaza de Armas and ended up at the Mercado Central, sampling traditional Chilian food along the way. We had discussions about Santiago's history, present day life, politics, and of course the foods that are enjoyed by the people of Santiago and Chile.
Excellent tour! Our guide was an American expat who had lived in Santiago for years, so she knew all the best places. The market is so much fun to tour--the fruits and veggies are HUGE and delicious. Our tour guides had a really well defined route with plenty of taste-testing along the way. There were some brief history lessons, but it was really much more of a cultural tour--exactly what we were looking for. All of the food was excellent, and we are definitely considering doing more tours with Foody Chile on our next Chile vacation.
In the review I sent a few minutes ago, I failed to include a star rating. Could you please link this 5 star rating with that review? Thank you.
Our guide was great, it was really interesting to see all the markets, we loved this tour
This has to be one of the most interesting tours we have had with Viator. Our guide took us right inside the markets of Santiago with a complete and thorough explanation of all that we saw. Food was great too!
Our tour guide made all the difference! She was so knowledgeable about her topics and I certainly got to enjoy all the local delicious Chilean staples. She even brought us to a traditional bar run by a family with their own secret recipe of Cola de Mono.
My favorites were the empanadas and the sopaipillas!
A truly wonderful tour!!!
Excellent tour with Fabian who spoke wonderful English and was a most gracious host with superb knowledge of the local food and drink. Highly recommended.
Small-group is right, on our tour it was just the two of us, talk about individual attention to detail! Our guide Alviro was a delight and he walked us through the various parts of the market, stopping to sample local foods and he provided stories along the way. As a warning, do not eat before this tour, you get lots of food to enjoy. We made the mistake of having breakfast about an hour and a half before so we only grazed the food. The scallop empanada was amazing at our final stop. This is lots of fun to see a market up-close and personal!!
Excellent overview of the food scene in Santiago. Helen was a wonderful tour guide !

Colin was very personable and knowledgeable about the Santiago markets. We first went through the fast food hall at the back of Plaza de Armas and saw a variety of Chilean fast food. We then had a typical drink from a street vendor with peach and barley syrupy--Chilean food tend to be fairly sweet.
Then we walked to the vast Vega market and had freshly fried pumpkin bread that was really good. Colin showed us different parts of the market, described it's history, its inhabitants and the food in detail. He took us to a very good comedor in the market and we each had two small typical plates. One was an excellent corn and bean stew and the other was a chicken soup.
After this, we went around the corner to a fun hole-in-the-wall bar and had a really good seasonal Christmas drink that this place has been making for more than 50 years. This was basically the Chilean version of eggnog. We finished our tour at the fish market where we ate empanadas and drank some white wine.
While Colin was very knowledgeable and did a great job, you could probably do some of this on your own. All in all, we had a lot of fun and learned some new things. Recommended.
We enjoyed our day, but we visited too many markets that were pretty much the same. I would suggest more variety. Our favorite thing was Mote con Huesillo, and delicious, refreshing drink made with peach juice, a whole peach, and barley.
