Discover the palaces and castles of TV’s ‘Outlander’ series on a 9.5-hour tour from Edinburgh. Visit some of the sites that starred in the fictional Jacobite saga, including Blackness Castle, the headquarters of Jack Randall, and Hopetoun House, the Duke of Sandringham’s residence. Explore Wentworth Prison, set in Linlithglow Palace, and see Midhope Castle (Lallybroch), Mercat Cross (Cranesmuir), and more, as you hear trivia on the series and its stars. Entrance fees are excluded.
  • Delve into 'Outlander' settings Blackness Castle, Linlithgow Castle, Midhope Castle, and Callendar House
  • Explore the village of Culcross, aka Cranesmuir
  • Hear insider stories about characters and filming from your informative guide
  • Round-trip transport from Edinburgh ensures a hassle-free experience
Depart Edinburgh by comfortable vehicle, and journey along the Firth of Forth.
Learn about Outlander, the historical time-travel TV series based on Diana Gabaldon’s stories, and hear trivia about its characters and Scotland’s history.
Stop for photos at 16th-century Midhope Castle, used as Lallybroch Castle, and visit Blackness Castle, the 15th-century fortress that doubled as Black Jack’s headquarters.
Explore the castle (own expense), seeing why it’s called 'the ship that never sailed,’ before traveling to Linlithgow. Take a stroll around this small town or visit ruined Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, and setting of Wentworth Prison, where Jamie was imprisoned.
Continue to Callendar House, enjoying about 45 minutes to explore this 14th-century mansion-turned-museum, whose kitchen served as the Duke of Sandringham's house. Then, visit the village of Culross whose medieval houses perfectly illustrate 18th-century Scotland, and see Mercat Cross, used as fictional Cranesmuir.
View the Culross Palace gardens, home of Claire’s herb garden, and after refreshments (own expense) at the Biscuit Café, take photos of the Tuileries standing stones (time-dependent).
Finally, visit 17th-century Hopetoun House, admiring its interior and grounds, which starred as the Duke of Sandringham’s residence, before finishing at the start point in Edinburgh.
Please note: Blackness Castle is closed on Fridays from October 1, 2017 through to March 31, 2018. The tour will include a photo stop at the castle during this period.

Andrew T was an amazing tour guide, he was very friendly and seemed like he really cared that people enjoyed themselves. He was also conscientious of the time we had at each place and made sure he counted us before taking off. I would definitely take this tour again and can only hope Andrew T would be our guide again.

Paul and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Donald was very knowledgeable and easy to listen to. We would recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in Outlander or Scottish history in general. Mary

The guide was friendly, but did not go with us to the castles. He parked the bus and showed us where to go. That was all. I thought He would go with us.

We had a great day on the tour. Andrew the driver was outstanding and so very informative. Seeing all the outlander film locations with the history of the jacobites was great.

My mom is a huge Outlander fan and this didn't disappoint! She loved it and I was amused as well (not an Outlander fan). Eddie made all the difference - full of information and made sure we saw it all and had a great time.

My husband, 8 other friends and I really enjoyed this tour, lead by Andrew. We we're blessed with fabulous weather. Andrew was very clear on what we were doing, how long we were staying at each site. Andrew was skilled at weaving the history of Scotland with the specifics of Outlander. He clearly is a fan. Some of the sites cost additional money, but you get a cost reduction for being on tour. We paid nothing due to having a Scotland Explorer pass. Even my husband loved this tour. I recommend it as a great value and lots of fun. Thank you Andrew!!

Great but some of the places need to have more signs to tell what scenes were filmed there. There was a lot of guessing.

Andrew was our driver/guide. He met us dressed in a kilt with all the trimmings. He added so much to our tour with his knowledge and friendly persona. We had a ball! If you're an Outlander fan, don't miss this!

The tour was very well managed. All of the sights noted in the description of the tour were visited. Enough time was allowed at each stop to view most of the sight and read information about the sight. Although several of the castles were not furnished, enough background was provided to obtain a feeling of how people lived in these castles. Hopetoun House was completely furnished and was well worth the price of admission. We were treated to quite a bonus at the end of the tour in Hopetoun House. Members of a choir from Norway were on our tour, and they sang two songs and one was Amazing Grace in English. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and professional.

If you are an Outlander tragic like me, then this is the tour for you! Started off with the theme music to Outlander to get us in the mood as if this group of Outlander fans needed it, and our fabulous guide Gregor, in a kilt! We saw not only Outlander filming sights, but learnt all about Scottish history, especially the Jacobite's and the rebellion. Gregor gave us a running commentary on all the sights we passed and in between times there was music to suit the mood. He was extremely entertaining all the way. I came from Melbourne Australia to do this tour, and it did not disappoint. Highly recommended.
