What You Can Expect

Friday Harbor Day Trip & Whale Watching from Seattle

Ferry Service from Seattle

Depart at 8:15 am from Pier 69 in downtown Seattle and cruise through Puget Sound toward the San Juan Islands - Seattle's secret playground! The roomy seats have plenty of leg room for a comfortable trip. Step out on the deck for a breath of fresh air and take in the beautiful views or enjoy an onboard meal and beverage at your seat (meals and beverages are not included). On this 3.5-hour scenic route through deception pass, you'll enjoy beautiful island vistas and a multitude of marine wildlife.

Upon arrival in the San Juan Islands take a 2.5-hour Whale & Sealife Cruise and continue your cruise through the waters of the San Juan Islands. The whale watching tour departs Friday Harbor at approximately 12:00 pm and returns at 2:30 pm. This 2.5-hour wildlife adventure is great for viewing orcas and other sea life in their natural habitats. The islands are home to 3 whale families, or pods, that migrate to the island waters for the summer months. You'll then have approximately 2 hours to spend in town shopping and sightseeing from 2:30-4:30 pm. At 5:00 pm you'll begin your trip back Seattle and will arrive at Seattle's Pier 69 at approximately 7:45 pm. Please note: Whale sightings are guaranteed.  If you don’t see whales on your trip, you are given a free trip to come back.

Please note: Whale sightings are not guaranteed.

Our naturalist was very knowledgeable and knew the whale by name and who was related to whom. Nobody promised us calves, and we saw several calves jumping out of the water with their mothers. We saw so many that it was exciting and at one point we were turning our heads from side to side as the whales were moving around. The boat was comfortable and while the top deck was a little cool, inside it was very pleasant and I only had my jacket on when I was on the outside deck. We also saw sea lions and seals and several kinds of birds. Friday Harbor is an interesting little town and it felt good to walk around town before getting on the boat to return to Seattle.

Wow! Beautiful journey! Saw some Orcas, a huge sea lion and some smaller whales as well. The scenic view the entire trip was amazing. The guide was knowledgeable and interesting. Well worth it. Just make sure you layer so you can sit up top, gets chilly up there.

Really had a nice time. The sea is calm in the sound, so no motion sickness. The views are great and the crew was knowledgeable about local history and whale behavior. Saw a humpback breach - twice and learned that you can guess where the whales are by the birds behavior - very cool. Friday Harbor was a typical tourist area - cute, great for lunch after whale watching, but I would not have known what to do had we been there much longer. I didn't try the shipboard food, but it seemed adequate.

Tour was great. The boat was comfortable and nice. Best of all, we saw the orcas that we set out to see! Get there early to get the exact seat you want as seating is first come first serve. To speed up the boarding process, print your boarding pass ahead of time, not just your ticket confirmation. I thought I would be boarding with the confirmation I received, but had to wait in line to get a boarding pass at the terminal.
