Wonderful!!!! My mother and I took the tour and It was the highlight of our trip. We Had multiple wHale sightings and the trip to San Juan is gorgeous
The cruise was great and we saw 2 whales. We got some good pictures. Please take this trip if you are in the Seattle area
Beautiful sights and sound, be prepared for the cold wind when in the top deck, great expiriences when tou see the amazing humpback whale.
Great fun, even though the weather was a bit rainy, we saw whales, sea lions, eagles, heron, etc. the naturalist was very knowledgeable.
Great day at sea. We saw sea lions, humpbacks and orca whales. The romantic cottages and majestic homes along the coastline on the islands were beautiful. Justine, our naturalist and moderator was AMAZING. She really knew her history and biology of the area. I thought she was reading from a book but looked up and she was sharing from her own mind all kinds of interesting facts and stories of the area. We enjoyed drinking and eating from the galley as we sailed along. The tables and seats were very comfortable. Definitely worth every penny!!
The boat trip with whale watching was a great use of a day in Seattle. The Salish Sea area is absolutely beautiful and the sea was calm as glass on the outward bound portion of the trip. We did see some Orca whales but they were very far away. Bring the zoom lenses for your camera and maybe a set of binoculars. Several people became sea sick as a result of a slight swell on the return trip, however a dose of Dramamine BEFORE the trip begins would have saved the day for them. Once the nausea hits it is too late. It gets chilly on the outside decks when underway so bring a wind breaker. We booked early at least a month in advance so we had 1st boarding. This is important if you want to sit by a window on the closed decks.
Overall this was a great experience my sister and I were able to take some great pictures of sea lions, seals, birds and beautiful scenery. I would do it again.
It was a very good experience, The narrator on the trip was knowledgeable and told us all kinds of useful information.
I loved this trip. It was a relaxing morning sailing to the San Juan Islands. It was a beautiful day. Once dropping off passengers in San Juan it was out to find the whales. We searched and searched and just when we were about to head back, there they were! A small family familiar to the area that was led by the grandmother whale. It was amazing. They were beautiful and amazing. The crew onboard was amazing and the narrator was so knowledgeable about the whales and the area. She pointed out various landmarks and told us how they can tell which whale pod we were observing, and whether they were regulars to the area or just passing through. At my age, I acted like a kid, taking pictures and gasping every time they came out of the water! After watching the whales, we were able to spend a brief time in San Juan island and then it was time to head back to Seattle. It was a long day, but a great one! I recommend it highly!
Key is knowledgeable crew on board. This was great. Flexible scheduling allowed for orca sightings going, during, and returning segments. Reco you take the plunge on this tour.
Awesome tour and saw some whales. It is a long day though so be prepared. Also by the time we got to Friday Harbor, there wasn't too many reasonably priced options available for lunch. Recommend taking a tripod or something else to stabilise your camera because with the amount you have to zoom to get pictures, something stable will definitely help.
Overall a great day
The boat was well set up for a tour. We had comfortable seats, plenty of food on board, large windows, and a great naturalist as a guide. The islands that we passed on the way out were scenic and very very green. On the way to the whale watching area we had a good talk about the whales in the area as well as other wild life along the way. WE SAW 10 ORCAS. What a day. There two pods moving about and the ship's crew was great at following and keeping us in viewing range as they dived and then popped up in a new place. It was terrific. On the way back, the captain spotted a humpback and we got to see that also. Friday Harbor was a nice sea town and we had a delicious late lunch there. All in all, the day was perfect. Anyone would enjoy this trip.
Seeing the orca whales was the highlight of my Seattle trip and birthday!
What an amazing experience. We had a perfect day weather wise and the company Victoria Clipper were great to work with. Everything was efficiently run and it was a really smooth experience. The trip up to Friday harbor was lovely - and of course, my favorite was the actual whale watching. We got to see two pods of Orcas with multiple sightings. The naturalist on board, Stephanie, was so helpful in describing the wild life and explaining about the pods we were seeing. Highly, highly recommend.
great trip - we saw orcas and humpbacks! the 3 hr ride up to Friday Harbor was fine, lovely views, comfortable seating. At first the whales were far, and i thought is this all? But then, they took us to another area where we saw quite a few much closer - so fun to watch the whales in their habitat. The drop off at Friday Harbor was just enough time to walk around and grab a late lunch overlooking the harbor. We had perfectly clear sunny weather, so that helped. Long day, but well worth it!
I would go on this tour again! The boat is clean and comfortable. It has a small cafe on it that is credit only, but everything is reasonably priced and they offer complimentary motion sickness medicine at the start of the trip. The staff of the Victoria Clipper is knowledgeable and courteous. We got to see 2 bald eagles, an island of seals and sea lions one seal swam right up to the boat and a whale. Since whaling watching is a hit or miss adventure, we got to see a humpback whale. But, I befriended another traveler who had taken the same tour the day before and they got to see a pod of orcas. So, the captain and crew do a great job trying to make sure you get to see a whale in its natural environment. Friday Harbor is the cutest little town. I did not know this at the time of booking, but you can actually choose to stay the night in Friday Harbor and come back on the boat the next day. I had no issues, but I failed to see the part about reconfirming my reservation 24 hours in advanced and being on the boat within 20 minutes of departure. I did not reconfirm till the morning of and was also running a bit late. Everything worked out fine, but just a heads up.
This tour was worth the money and adventure. I would definitely book it again.
I have a great experience with this trip. The crews are friendly and have shown us different wildlife during the trip.
Seeing orcas in the wild was on my bucket list. This tour did not disappoint, We saw a number of orcas, way more than I expected to see. This was the highlight of my three week trip to the USA.
This is a great tour. We took this same tour many years ago and enjoyed sharing it with a friend this year. Our weather was beautiful, and the staff and on the ferry were really friendly and professional. We did see whales, though we had to maintain a distance for the whales safety. We would highly recommend this tour to everyone who is visiting Seattle or who may live there and have not taken the tour.
If you are close to downtown, this trip makes a lot more sense to me than trying to drive up and take the ferry over. You hop on the boat and let them do all the driving!. You get a nice tour of lots of beautiful coastline and you get time in town at Friday Harbor to grab a bite or a souvenir or two. On our trip, the whale watching was on the same boat, so it was a breeze. I highly recommend this one!
Our naturalist was very knowledgeable and knew the whale by name and who was related to whom. Nobody promised us calves, and we saw several calves jumping out of the water with their mothers. We saw so many that it was exciting and at one point we were turning our heads from side to side as the whales were moving around. The boat was comfortable and while the top deck was a little cool, inside it was very pleasant and I only had my jacket on when I was on the outside deck. We also saw sea lions and seals and several kinds of birds. Friday Harbor is an interesting little town and it felt good to walk around town before getting on the boat to return to Seattle.
Excellent Trip!! I highly recommend the Friday Harbor Day Trip. Lots to see.
Comfortable boat trip, with lots of chances to spot wildlife along the way. I highly enjoyed it!
