What You Can Expect

Seoraksan National Park Day Trip from Seoul

Seoraksan National Park Day Trip from Seoul

Mt Seorak, located in UNESCO-listed Seoraksan National Park, is perhaps Korea’s most popular mountain destination. Forested granite peaks and flowing streams fill the 154-square-mile (398-sq-km) designated Biosphere Reserve, home to more than 2,000 animal species and 1,400 rare plant species.

After hotel pickup in the morning, your guide transfers your small group to a shuttle bus stop in downtown Seoul and accompanies you along the 3.5-hour drive to Hanwha Resort. From here, a local taxi service delivers you to your destination at Mt Seorak.

On arrival, your guide recommends a well-maintained hiking path suited to your ability, selected among a dozen possible routes. Embark with your guide on an hour-long trek and keep a lookout for musk deer and local landmarks such as the 33-foot-high (10-meter) bronze Buddha statue at Shinheungsa Temple.

You have the option to continue on a longer hike or ride the Seorak Cable Car, which provides views of Ulsanbawi Rock and the East Sea (cable car depends on availability; own expense).

Afterward, you’re taken to a local restaurant for a Korean lunch of assorted mountain vegetables and meat with rice.

Upon reaching Sokcho, a small town located below Mt Seorak, you’re accompanied on a local express bus back to Seoul, ending your 12-hour day with drop-off at your hotel.

Please note: A minimum of three adults per booking is required.

2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better May 2015

This trip was a little disappointing. Not only did they make us pay for three people in order to take the tour but the guide was not very knowledgeable and did not seem to want to have his job. We spent over an hour driving through a town to look for a restaurant for lunch rather than sticking to the agenda. Whenever we got to the park he didn't seem to know very much about it and could not answer many questions for us. Often times during the tour we found ourselves answering questions for him. Overall it was a nice concept but the tour itself did not meet expectations.
