Jim was very informative and we had wonderful food - will do again!
I'd highly recommend this tour to anyone who is in Shanghai and would like to learn more about the city and taste good food while doing so. My guide Jim was excellent, as was his trainee Aaron. Importantly, the places I was taken and the food I was given would've been difficult if not impossible to find/eat as a non-Mandarin speaker.
Fantastic tour! Jim was great, we only have 4 of us and our toddler on this tour so we had plenty of time to eat and talk! Jim was full of information about both the food and the local area we walked around in. Would recommend to anyone wanting to see more of the local side of Shanghai and also tasting some amazing food.
Raven was AMAZING! Spoke excellent English, the Tea Ceremony was a highlight! And since I walk with a cane, she walked at my pace. Yes, Yes,Yes....book this tour or any tour with “Sunny Tours” ask for Raven you will not be disappointed.
I loved my tour guide that took me though all the back alleys and mom and pop places with great food.

Excellent value! Great way to spend 3 hours in Shanghai. Jim has linked several amazing local hole in the wall eateries together with a couple craft breweries and a tea house! Arrive hungry and thirsty. Youll be delightfully surprised!

If you are in Shanghai this is a must do tour. We would have never found all these places on our own and saw a totally authentic side of Shanghai. Jim was a great tour host, who felt more like a friend as we walked through different neighbourhoods, we ate at some great places. Go with an empty stomach and comfortable shoes :
The Shanghai foodie tour was a highlight in our China trip. Delightful host who exposed us to local haunts. Just to note there is quite a lot of walking so go prepared - but do go.
I absolutely loved this tour! Jim is a local and took me to so many places I otherwise would not have been able to visit as I had no idea they existed. The food was delicious and I tried many foods I wouldn't have eaten in Australia. One of the stops was at a tea house with a tea ceremony. So many things to see and to do! I tried some nuts at the tea house which were the best nuts I have ever eaten. So delicious! Another stop was at a magical mum and dad eatery in an alley, almost hidden to the public. I ate noodles there and they were SO delicious! The atmosphere was awesome, with some locals in their pj's eating their noodle soup. This is one of the best tours I have been on and it was so lovely to chat to Jim. I almost felt like he was a friend rather than a tour guide. This tour is a MUST DO when you are in Shanghai!!
Jim Wang is a thorough professional who knows the culture and local food scene in Shanghai better than anyone we have run into. Our tour was a delight from start to finish. What impressed me the most about the tour was Jim's willingness to add to the tour when we expressed an interest in trying a dish lotus root stuffed with sticky rice from a local market that was not part of the plan. As travelers who take a food tour in every new city that we visit, my wife and I have seldom seen this type of spontaneity and we found that it greatly enhanced our experience. If you are looking for visits to the standard restaurants, this tour is not for you. If you want to experience street food and local mom and pop shops that still do food the traditional way, Jim is The Man,
My tour with Maggie in August was one of the highlights of my entire trip. To begin, so many of the prominent highlights in China are swamped with tourists but my tour only had five people. We sampled so may authentic foods and really experienced a small slice of real Shanghai life. One special moment was the short tour through some of the back alleys of Shanghai that I would never have visited alone. Maggie gave great insight in all of the stops and the food was very tasty. Great value
It was my first day in Shanghai and Jim provided a terrific introduction to not just the food in the city, but also the history and culture. I would very much recommend this tour - the pacing was perfect and walking through the neighbourhoods permitted time to work off the food we were consuming.
This tour was excellent. We would have never found these places on our own and saw a totally authentic side of Shanghai. The food was plentiful and delicious and our guide was accommodating and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this tour!
We had a wonderful tour with Jim Wang - the owner of Shanghai Foodie, he was extremely informative and knowledgeable and provided an experience and insights into Shanghai culture that we would not have had otherwise.
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who has an interest not only in local cuisine but also in the history of Shanghai.
Awesome food tour and tour guide. Unless you are a native to Shanghai, you will never get close to the authentic experience unless you take this tour. Food was great and a nice variety, and definitely filling.
What a great way to spend three hours in Shanghai. Jim was so knowledgeable and passionate about Shanghai's food, culture and history. We would never have found these places on our own. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this tour. Thank you Jim.
We, who are both involved in the tourism and culinary sector, enjoyed this tour very much. Instructions were exact and easy to follow. They speak excellent English but still have a profound knowledge of the area, history, the food and anything else you might want to know.THANK YOU JIM! Do it-so worth
Had a great time with Jim. He really knows his stuff and took us to authentic restaurants that we otherwise would not of known about. It was great to speak to someone who spoke English so well and knew Shanghai. He was able to answer any and all questions we had. This is well worth the money and a MUST if you are visiting Shanghai.
If you are in Shanghai, you MUST take this tour with Jim. I went in September and had the pleasure on joining this tour with another family, Jim and Vivian. It was amazing. The information was knowledgeable, the walking part was great because we would have never gone down the alleyways to see real life in Shanghai. Now the food-- it was the best I had in China. It included items I would have never known to try and places that I would have never ventured into on my own language. Jim and Vivian-- you were great! Can't wait to keep recommending this tour to my friends traveling there.
This is a well planned tour that thoroughly exceeded our expectations. The No. 2 metro exit was easy to find, the walking was at a slow, enjoyable pace, and the range of local tastes was just great. We had the pleasure of Jim, our guide, to ourselves, and he was attentive and sensitive to our needs and interests, leading us to lovely food and giving us a personalised experience. We did the 9am tour - our advice is to make sure you come hungry! There was no westerised food on this tour, which was why we chose it. Thank you Jim.
This might be one of the best tours that I have ever done! So much more than just a food tour, this is a truly immersive experience through the community. The food is amazing - definately went to places I wouldn't have gone on my own. It's a great way to eat like a local. Jim is great and gives a good flavor for daily life in the city.
Tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable. Enjoyed all the restaurants on the tour. I would never have found them on my own.
Super full after all the food spots I was taken to. Great way to see the city and try local cuisine
