What You Can Expect

Meet your private guide and separate driver at your central Shanghai hotel in the early evening. Then, settle inside your private, air-conditioned vehicle, and drive through the vibrant streets to the Huangpu River, the waterway that divides the city’s Puxi (west bank) and Pudong (east bank) districts.

Here, board a shared riverboat for a journey along the river as darkness falls. Find a comfortable spot on deck with your guide, and absorb the panoramic views of the city’s sparkling skyline as you cruise.

Admire the colonial-era buildings of The Bund, all bathed in lights, and gaze the other way to take in newer Shanghai: the illuminated skyscrapers of the Pudong commercial district on the east side of the river.

After disembarking, enjoy a sightseeing stroll along The Bund, one of Shanghai’s standout attractions. Home to exclusive hotels, consulates, and institutions such as the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) and Bank of China, this handsome promenade is famous for its 1920s architecture and stunning views across to Pudong.

Learn about the landmarks from your guide, and then turn into Shanghai’s premier retail hotspot, the Nanjing Road — one of the world’s busiest shopping avenues. Take in the dizzying neon lights and energetic atmosphere of this 3.4-mile (5.4-kilometer) avenue, passing glittering malls, upscale department stores, fashion shops, restaurants and more, many housed in illustrious historical buildings.

After time here, relax on a ride back to your hotel, where your 3-hour private tour comes to a close.

3 star rating: Worth doing December 2017

The beginning of our private evening excursion with the guide was sad. The Huangpu River was closed due to the approaching typhoon. All ships except ferries had to dock. The weather also did not go well, it was drizzle and it was raining for a while. The guide offered us a spare program, visiting one of Shanhaji's tallest buildings. We chose the Shanghai World Financial Center, 494.3m high. On the top Shanghai Tower high 632m we were three days before. It was not a good view from above because the weather. We enjoyed the view from behind the clouds and we left the building. Because we wanted to buy a doll for our granddaughter, we asked the guide to see if she could not help us with a toy and a doll shop. As a matter of fact, there is a Disneyland business, and that's why we have gone through even the hustle and drizzle, the very nice deserted promenade in the financial center with all the amazing shining and flashing skyscrapers and buildings around. We did not buy a doll, so the guy hooked us to Yu Garden, where there were more toy stores. Subsequently, we spoke and went to the hotel.

2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better April 2016

Unfortunately it was raining quiet heavily, we called Sophie our cruise contact and let her know that we would not attend prior to the cruise, is there any chance of getting a discount if we decide to do the cruise at a later date?

Nothing went wrong, I only gave it two stars because we did not attend.
