Bit of a drive but good thing to do and see something than just Shanghai proper
This was a great 1/2 day trip. David was AWESOME!!!!! He was very knowledgeable and took some great photos of my husband and I. I would recommend this trip for anyone looking for something a little different to do in Shanghai.
Vicki was an excellent and informative tour guide. We really enjoyed seeing another side of Shanghai. There was a variety of things to do on the tour and it was individually catered to our needs and interests. Thoroughly recommend.
We took this tour on a rainy Monday October 16. The tour guide David Wang who was wonderful, was right on timewe arranged to do the tour at 9am even though it says 10am when you go to book it and he was extremely informative. Even though it was raining hard we still got to take the boat ride before they shut it down. It takes an hour approximately from Shanghai on the bund area to Zhujiajiao. The most interesting part of the village was the gardens. On the way back he dropped each one of in our party where they wanted to go as we still had time to take in another interesting historic sight.
Tom was absolutely delightful. From the moment we left our hotel, the flow of information, history and experience began - we all appreciated Tom's insight and easy going manner as we took in the drive to Zhujiajiao and experienced the ancient town. Each new experience brings with it a new challenge when traveling in a new place, so having Tom in charge and leading the way was so refreshing. I highly recommend it!
This experience was exactly what we were hoping for! Our guide Tom was great! He was on-time, spoke very good English, very knowledgable as a tour guide and my family and I had a very fun trip! I would request him again if we are ever back in Shanghai and I would also highly recommend this trip!
Tom was a wonderful guide and spook very good english. He wisely suggested an early starting time to avoid some of the crowds and suggested passing on most of the local restuarants. I would use Tom again.
Our guide Vicky looked after us superbly on this tour. She was very knowledgable and friendly and made our first day in China very enjoyable. We were picked up from our hotel in the morning and in the afternoon she assisted us in using the Metro to go to the Peoples Square. The tour was fantastic and would thoroughly recommend. Thankyou Vicky.
If you want to get around china easily, with english speaking guides in safety and comfort, book with these guys and with Tom. We were picked up at our hotel and returned to a place of our request with no problems. The tour was fantastic, well worth looking at and experiencing. I highly recommend Tom and the tour comapany. I will use them again.
Tom was an incredible tour guide and so easy to work with. I made last minute changes and he worked them in seamlessly. I definitely recommend Tom as a guide, as he shared a lot of informative insight into the water town and chinese culture as a whole!
Great day and really interesting. Our family of 4 2 Adults, 2 Children -14,11 all enjoyed the day. I would highly recommend it to others.
I really enjoyed my trip with Tom. He is an excellent driver and tour guide. I learned a lot about the history and culture of this part of China, as well as modern-day life in Shanghai.
David Wang was our tour guide and it was everything we expected from him and even more. He called us the night at our hotel and gave us pick up time options. He promptly met us as scheduled in the hotel lobby and proceeded to advise of the the days itinerary. Along the drive to Zhujiajiao, he answered all our questions about China as he is very knowledgeable in past and current Chinese history.
Once we arrived at our destination, David walked us around the numerous vendor stalls and explained what each unfamiliar food product we were looking at. He allowed us to buy from the vendors and sample them along the way of our tour. The canal ride was included and he narrated the entire journey about history of Zhujiajiao. Once the canal ride was completed, he took us on a walking tour through the private gardens, an absolute break from the hustle and bustle shopping stall areas.
Upon our return back to Shanghai, we informed David to drop us off at the Ancient City of Shanghai. Not only did he drop the two of us off, he ended up joining us for and giving us another brief walking tour of the Ancient City and topped the day off with a visit to the world famous dumpling house where we went upstairs to the 3rd floor restaurant and proceeded to have quite tasty dumplings and a rice plate.
Thanks to David, I know have a much more understanding about life in China and especially in Shanghai. We couldn't thank him enough for his time and knowledge. If I ever return to Shanghai, I will private email him for another tour since he was such a charm to spend the day with.
Our guide Tom was great! We only had time for the half day tour but would loved to have spent a bit more time in Zhujiajiao since it was a bit rushed. We made good time getting there from Shanghai but hit traffic on the way back. Be sure to take that into consideration. Also - there was no time to eat anything although we did pick up a cup of coffee for the ride back so you might want to bring some snacks.
Tom was a great tour guide. He kept in touch with text messages, picked us up at the hotel. We got to the water town in the morning when it was beautiful and quiet, just before all the tourists came. Tom was informative and patient, he gave us many helpful tips for our trip in Shanghai.
Tom is our guide. and he is really great guide friendly and informative!
We enjoyed this tour very much mostly because of Tom.
We would contact him when in Shanghai again next time.
We enjoyed this very interesting day mostly because of our knowledgeable and patient guide,Tom.
We had a marvelous day with Tom!! In Zhujiajiao we enjoyed a boat ride, strolled the streets of the ancient city and toured the pharmacy and the post office. All the while, Tom shared the history and culture of the area. Tom is a great driver, smart and sociable. We would not hesitate to contact him when in Shanghai again.
This is well worth doing and a nice chance to have alook outside of Shanghi. Our guide was excellent and quite informative. I can highly recommend this tour.
This tour was quite good overall. We booked it less than 18 hours before it was due to commence, our guide called us that evening and arranged everything. Pickup/dropoff at our hotel in Shanghai was flawless. A bit pricey, we paid as much for our 3-4 hours here as we did for an entire day in Suzhou. Our guide, David Wong, was friendly, knowledgeable and well-organized. Excellent English language capability. Gave us a good guided tour of the streets, to include the Fangsheng Bridge--a highlight--and arranged a private boat tour of the canals. Lunch was on us, but David helpfully recommended several local specialities. I could've wished for some time in the several temples/pavilions that our guidebook mentioned, but hard to do in half a day. One caveat: we were warned that Zhujiajiao is the most touristy of the many water towns surrounding Shanghai, this certainly appeared to be the case. I'm glad we went, but if I had it to do over again I'd pick a full day at one of the lesser-known towns farther away. With that caution, I would still recommend this tour for those who want to see something a bit different during their time in Shanghai.
I wanted to see some of the more traditional Shanghai surrounds so had a look at Viator and decided to book a private tour with Tom to go and see Zhujiajiao. Toms English and knowledge of Shanghai and China in general was brilliant and made the day worth my while. The actual water town was a bit touristy but since Tom was there for a good and in-depth conversation it made up for the touristy and commercial atmosphere.
Tom got in contact shortly after booking the trip, confirmed the trip the day before and was on time on the day. I would highly recommend him as a guide but would probably not go to Zhujiajiao but rather get him to show me round Shanghai.
The tour was good fun, even though the town was a little touristy. Our guide Tom was absolutely amazing. pick up at the hotel on time and was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. In honesty, he made the tour better as the drive there and back was filled with great conversation about China and tips / info of all things China.
