A wonderful tour ! Our guide Lisa made a first class job, as it was a private tour for just two. Xitang was very nice at evening, with its narrow streets full of candlelights.... We had some surprises from Lisa and Miki, including a kind of pre-dinner at a local small-hotel, tasting of Xitang Liqueurs, dinner at a small restaurant by the Riverside and, finally, a fun karaoke night with them singing like pros. A MUST during a Shanghai stay. By the end of the tour, Miki offered us some nice presents, and that made us that night so special that we'll never forget. Thanks a lot for everything, Lisa and Miki. Hope to meet you again !

Only visiting Shanghai for a few days, my friend and I were a little hesitant to leave the city to visit the countryside. Boy, are we glad we did! Xitang is an absolutely magical place and is a good glimpse into the local culture and history. The charming water village provided much needed contrast to the buzz and density of Shanghai. What was once an important trading post due to it's position and water access, Xitang now caters to tourists without feeling overly touristy a feeling which we like to avoid. Small bars and shops line the old canals, while countless explorable alleyways connect traditional homes to the main areas. Here, it is easy to get the sense of stepping back into time.
Miki Tours does an excellent job, possibly the best tour experience we've ever had. The driver picked us up on time at our hotel in a comfy and clean vehicle. Along the route, Miki explained various points of interest. She seems extremely passionate about what she does and has a huge wealth of knowledge about everything we encountered along our way, being able to answer even trivial questions about what certain buildings are for, or the way life works in China. Once we arrived at the village she took us around and explained the history of different buildings, bridges, and corridors something we didn't expect to find so fascinating, but the way she narrates made it so. Miki was very engaging with me and my friend, asking us about what we like and then catering the experience to us we mentioned liking to have a drink so she took us to sample rice wine, for example. She then took us to a bar for a round of beers, and before we knew it she had everyone in the bar singing together. And then, just when we thought it couldn't get any better, she took us to an absolutely delicious family style restaurant, where we tried a dizzying array of local dishes, each one seemingly more delicious than the last. After a bit more walking to help digest, we arrived back at the van, which took us back to Shanghai just in time for a reasonable bedtime, or in our case, a night on the town.
I would highly recommend anyone who has a few days in Shanghai to give this tour a try, or any tour led by Miki Tours' company. All of her suggestions were perfect. Miki, if you're reading this, thank you for the great time!

The guide and experience were fantastic. Miki totally customized the tour to us, while throwing in a lot of great surprises along the way. She clearly knows the town very well, and even took us on a bonus tour of a less developed water town when we said we had more time. My tour companions mentioned they felt like a local friend was showing them around their hometown. This tour costs a little more than some of the other water town tours but we thought it was an awesome value based on the amount you will see and experience! Based on other reviews I was hoping this would be a great tour but it far exceeded my already high expectations.

This was our favorite trip during our recent visit to Shanghai. We had organised the trip through Miki tours and were met at our hotel by Zoe who was a fabulous host for the evening. The ride in the taxi from our downtown hotel took just over an hour but was completely worthwhile. The water village looked fabulous in the evening and wandering through the many streets was fascinating before a fabulous dinner in one of the riverside restaurants. We even went for a tour down one of the alleys bouncing with party life and had a drink in one on the many live music bars. If you do one trip when in Shanghai then this is the one I would recommend
