Overview

See the volcanic landscape of Mount Etna, then stroll the hilltop town of Taormina on a full-day tour from Messina that explores Sicily’s remarkable landscape, architecture, and culture. You’ll have views into the Silvestri Craters, and time to take in Taormina’s ancient Roman streets, theater, and monuments with the guide. This full-day tour includes pickup and drop-off at the Messina port or Cathedral Square, and transport in a climate-controlled coach.
  • Full-day Etna and Taormina tour from Messina
  • Visit the tallest volcano in Europe
  • See craters from the 1892 eruption
  • Tour a scenic hilltop town
  • Departures available throughout the day
  • Pickup and drop-off at Messina's port and square
Meet a driver/guide for departure at one of several start times that are available through the morning and early afternoon, then make the 1-hour, 40-minute drive to Mount Etna in a comfortable vehicle. Upon arrival at the mountain, which is the highest volcano in Europe, you’ll have sweeping views across the surrounding countryside and coast.
Stretch your legs at the mountain refuge of Sapienza, at 6,233 feet (1,900 mt.) above sea level, then continue to the Silvestri Craters, a pair of inactive craters hollowed out by Etna’s 1892 eruption. Watch for serious hikers at the craters, as this is on the path for anyone wishing to summit the 10,991-foot (3,350-meter) volcano.
From Mount Etna, continue to the beautiful mountain village of Taormina, which is on UNESCO’s tentative list of World Heritage Sites. Here, you’ll have time to walk the ancient Roman street through the heart of the town, stop by the Greco-Roman theater, and see churches and monuments (as well as visit a few amazing spots for Sicilian sweets and gelato).
This 7-hour trip concludes with the return trip to Messina, and drop-off at the port or main square.

The french guide Sara was very kind and was interesting. However, you do not stay long enough at Etna to have time to visit. You only have time for a quick view.

Our guide was good and the van was ok. Every seat was taken so it was tight inside.

Worse tour I took during my 11 day cruise. Chiada barely spoke the entire time. When she did speak it was very hard to understand. The bus driver got lost and it took us over 3 hours to get to Mt Etna. It was basically a bus service. The other family on the tour said it was horrible as well.
We didn't get to go to Mt. Etna...

We didn't get to go to Mt. Etna because of an eruption that morning. Instead, our guide, Chiarra, took us to the town, Savoca, where the wedding scene from the Godfather was filmed. She slowed down at the tour members request because it was uphill and hard for us older folks. She did talk in Italian a lot more than English. There were only two Italians on the bus with 15 English speakers. One couple from New York called her on it and she correct herself. But she was interrupted several times in Italian and that was confusing for us English speakers. Chiarra did very good with us at the end though and gave us extra time in the town itself. Taormina was beautiful and we had a great lunch there.
