What You Can Expect

Siena Walking Tour with Contrada Museum and Ice Cream Tasting

Learn how to prepare the typical Italian Gelato

Meet your guide in the main square of Siena, the Piazza del Campo. There, you'll hear stories of the famous Palio that takes place in that piazza, and learn how the bell tower (campanile in Italian) atop the city hall lent itself to a word Italians use to describe allegiance to one's home: campanalismo.

Explore that concept further with a visit to the Contrada Museum, where you'll learn the names and historic significance of each neighborhood, as well as what makes each one unique. Then, wander through one contrada in particular to put your new knowledge to use.

Your walk brings you to a local gelateria, a sweet part of any day in Italy. Learn from an expert at the gelateria how this famous Italian treat is made, followed by a sampling of that shop's gelato to end your tour.

Our guide had expert knowledge and was very helpful. The museum is excellent and is a 'must see' given the significance of the Palio in Siena. All items are displayed very well and although the building is old as expected in these ancient cities, the museum is very modern. The ce cream making and tasting was a bit of fun and made an excellent end to the tour.

The tour was very interesting and we were surprised that it was so personal - 3 guests to 1 tour guide with private access to the local church and museum which we would never have been able to arrange on our own

Tour guide was difficult to find so we ended up starting 15 mins late - she was very knowledgeable but a little difficult to understand at times. She walked very fast so it was a little hard to keep up with her at times. But covered a lot of ground and learnt a lot about Siena
