Incredible tour! I learned so much from my fantastic guide!! He was so knowledgeable and provided me with 5,000 years of history, speckled with fun facts and interesting personal anecdotes. I've been on several food tours before, and this one was definitely less focused on the food than typical ones only 2 food stops, but the guide did finish the tour at a local Bulgarian restaurant where I ended up staying for a fantastic dinner. Even though it wasn't very food-focused, it was an excellent way to spend 3 hours and gain a better understanding of Sofia.
This was a very fun tour. There were only 3 of us on the tour with the lovely guide. She showed us around Sofia and explained lots. We then went to restaurant and had shopska salad and drinkable yoghurt. We then continued on touring a bit more until we took the underground to a traditional restaurant just one stop away. Here we had a sample platter of dried meats and a glass of red wine. We then decided to stay as a group and have dinner at our own expense. We then walked back toward the city centre with the guide before we went our own ways. I would definitely recommend this tour to learn more about Sofia and have a taste of some traditional food and drink.
Excellent walking tour - be careful - cobblestone streets - hard walking - brought my breakfast - yogurt/salt/water drink, whey-based alcoholic drink and hard roll with cheese - not gourmet for sure but good to try! Super guide - archeology degree - very knowledgeable esp. all the Roman digs!
This tour was great! It was my first tour in Sofia and it was amazing!!! Our guide was a history book and knew exactly what he was talking about it was absolutely great! All the food we tried was lovely and amazing! I do have to say that I am truly grateful that the two restaurants we went to were to helpful when it came to me because I am vegan and they were willing to prepare me a special dish so I was so grateful! This tour is a absolutely must if you are in Sofia!
Bulgarian private tour, no other people in this tour just me and my fiance, the guy will walk you all over the city and give you personalized explanations, we stop in a couple of restaurants for some tipical food, we were offered aryan drinks and salad in the first place and since we are vegetarian cheese and wine at the end of the tour in a tipical restaurant, price is very reasonable considering you have a personal guide for4 hours, food is included as well, we were so happy and gave 10 tip as well.
Loved all the Bulgarian food, excellent guide, would do this again
I was the only paricipant so etwas really a great tour with an absolutely great Tour Guide Metodiy. He is very knowledged about any history fact. Was really nice to discuss and talk about all the historic buildings and facts as well as about the good food. He adjust the tour if one is interesting in something special. Perfect. I had the feeling that I have got known the Bulgarian life within few hours. 10 stars out of 5 -
The first thing to say is that whilst food was partaken of this is not really a tour that explains Bulgarian food - nor does it claim to be -- the title refers to food tasting !
That said the tour was excellent ! The guide was great -- very knowledgeable with a perfect grasp of the English language - also a very personable guy.
We got a much more in depth chat about the sights visited than we did on the also very good in its own way free walking tour.
This tour was excellent. Our guide, Stoyan, was very knowledgeable and gave us a wonderful appreciation of Sophia's history. We can thoroughly recommend this tour.
This was a great with an excellent guide. Would like to have the same guide on all tours. We were glad that we had pre- booked it before leaving home.
The Sofia Food Tasting and Cultural Walking Tour was worth every penny paid. I recommend.
this was a good way to see the city and learn about the history. our tour guide was great and knew a lot. just note that it was more cultural and walking than it was food-driven.
Ilko was a friendly professional tour guide . We enjoyed learning the history of Bulgaria and Sophia. We stopped in many of the churches in Sophia and he described the governmental buildings. More of a good city tour with stops in 2 resteraunts . Recommended, easy walking
Great tour to find out about the cultural background of Sofia - our guide was really knowledgable and friendly :
In terms of food tasting, we only had 2 stops/tastings during the tour although the details in the tour description stated we'd have 3 - unfortunately we missed out on trying baklava and tolumbichki pastries only realising afterwards that this should have been part of the tour - this would have made the tour complete!
