What You Can Expect

Amalfi Coast and Pompeii Day Trip from Sorrento

Explore ancient Pompeii and see the Amalfi Coast on a day trip from Sorrento

Meet your driver at your Sorrento hotel or in the center of town and hop aboard your coach, heading east toward the UNESCO-listed Amalfi Coast.

Wind along the stunning coastal landscape, with sweeping views of the Mediterranean. Stop first in Positano, where you'll learn the history behind the pastel-colored town from your driver before taking off for an hour of free time.

Continue afterward to Amalfi, with three hours to stroll the charming streets, savor some southern Italian fare for lunch (own expense) or visit the 9th-century cathedral (own expense) at your leisure.

Reunite with your driver and journey to the UNESCO-listed ruins of Pompeii. Buried under the pumice and ash of Mt Vesuvius’ 79 AD eruption, the once-thriving city remained preserved under the rubble. Today, it offers a fascinating look into ancient Roman life.

Once inside (own expense), enjoy a walking tour of the archeological site with an expert guide. See the Thermal Baths, the Forum and the mosaics and frescoes left behind by Pompeii’s elite as you hear the history of the 2,000-year-old site.

After a full day of sightseeing, your tour will conclude at your original departure point.

This full day event is well worth it, you will see many sites and towns that you could not see on your own using public buses. Plus you get a guided tour though the ruins of Pompeii, this is a must cause you would not want to just wonder around Pompeii without a guide.

Great tour- the guides were knowledgable and approachable. We had different guides in Pompei vs the rest of the tour. The one we had for Pompei was especially great. I was a little disappointed that we only saw about 3 bodies, but other than that it was fascinating to see how people lived then.

Fabulous way to spend a day! We left around 8:30 am and picked up some more people from their hotels, then on to Pompeii. Visiting this place was the highlight of my 3 week trip. To stand there and to see Mt. Vesuvius such a long ways away and to know it covered Pompeii with 20 feet of ash is truly an incredible experience. Back on the bus, we drove OVER a big mountain to get to the Amalfi coast. We were interrupted once by a flock of 300 sheep crossing the road. The Amalfi coast is as beautiful as one can imagine with little picturesque villages clinging to the cliffsides and cascading down to the sea. We had lunch in one of the villages and made a few other pit stops along the narrow winding road back to Sorrento, snapping pics all the way. Our driver pointed out Sofia Loren's gorgeous home. Wow! Got home around 6:00 pm just in time for dinner. What a great day! Don't miss it.

A wonderful day. Rafael, our guide in Pompeii, did a great job of making sure we saw the highlights. He was very knowledgeable.

This was an amazing tour and a great way to fit it all in if you are short on time. The guide at Pompei was very informative and knew her stuff. The roads on the coast are very curvy and our bus driver was so safe and cautious. I felt really comfortable and safe with him at the wheel.
