As Herculaneum is smaller than Pompii you can see most of it on this tour. The guide was very good and it helped the set Pompeii in context. Recommend this tour first or instead of Pompeii.
It was an amazing half day trip. Roberta our guide was superb and so knowledgeable. She was so generous in her approach to the day and was very helpful. Thank you Roberta for giving us such a wonderful trip to Herculaneum.
This tour is very interesting and informative. Our guide was Roberta. She is fantastic! Kept the energy level high and very knowledgeable. Thank you!!
Everything about our tour was good. Our guide, Roberta, was very good and considerate to all the members of our group.

This was a fantastic tour, I would recommend it. the tour company were brilliant, they picked us up and dropped us off on time, the group was small which meant we could hear the guides easily and could get round more of the site.
We had a good guide on the bus, who gave us lots of information as we were travelling to the site. Once we arrived we were shown around the site by an archaeologist, who was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the site. There are toilet facilities at the site, both in the car park and at the visitors centre. Make sure you collect your map and guide book which are part of your ticket price. The site is smaller than Pompeii, but has been well preserved due to the volcanic mud, and you can still see mosaics, colourful murals, and second stories on the buildings. Don't forget your camera!
Great trip out. Our guide Paulo was superb so well informed and a great communicator made the day special
Great Trip! We were advised this was a good alternative to Pompeii so thought we would give it a go instead and we were very happy with our decision. The site is very interesting and very well preserved, we saw many fascinating sights and learnt a lot of very interesting facts. Our tour guide 'Vincenzo' was excellent. He was amusing, considerate finding shady spots to talk to us on a very hot day and he was very knowledgeable. He explained things very well and helped to build a picture of the past. Would give this tour 10/10 and recommend everyone to do it. We didn't do Pompeii so can't really compare but unless you are very keen on your archeology I cannot imagine this could be better. Hotel pick up, journey, coach, time etc were all perfect too. Well done Viator and Vincenzo.
This was a terrific tour. Lots of beauty most of the way to Herculaneum, and the guide gave us background and history as we rode. Once we arrived at Herculaneum, which is an amazing experience, we were met by a local guide who took us through the ruins. There is lots to see, including beautiful mosaics and frescos and the guide was excellent. I have no hesitation recommending this tour to anyone.

Highly recommend this tour. The guide was excellent. Herculaneum is much smaller than Pompeii and less crowded.
Our local tour hostess, Clementina was a delight! Our tour guide, Vincenzo was engaging, knowledgeable and passionate down to details that brought Ercolano to life. If you and #39;re really into this stuff, do yourself a favor and book this tour! Worth every euro.
Really enjoyed this, excellent for someone like me who is a rome and history fanatic.
Fairly quiet so no problem getting in or seeing anything. Tour could have been longer as start was delayed by waiting for everyone to use the two toilets!
Our bus picked us up from our hotel at 08.25 and, due to a road accident on one road and a broken down lorry on the other road, we didn't reach Herculaneum until 10.30! However, this was the only downside to the whole trip. Herculaneum regulates the number of visitors in the site and so occasionally they will stop entrance for a while but we only waited about 20 mins and, if I'm honest, it does make the whole experience more enjoyable as you are not fighting through the crowds. Nello, our guide, was passionate and knowledgeable about his subject and his tour was extremely good. The site itself was very interesting although some of the best preserved houses were closed to the public for restoration. All in all, a very good tour and one I would thoroughly recommend. I would especially recommend Nello for his wonderful narrative.
It would have been helpful to have been told that you need photo ID if you have children under 18 otherwise you pay for them .
Tour guide very informative
This was a good trip, and the guide was very good. On our last visit to Italy we went to Pompeii and this was a much better site to visit, so I would definitely say to see Herculaneum over Pompeii and this trip is a good way to do it. However they do not pick you up at your hotel if your hotel is on a narrow street. As far as I know we all got on at one stop, which was in the middle of town and needlessly confusing at the bus stop. I would say while we waited, 15 buses came and went, very few had markings that were recognizable. Also because of the number of visitors we did not have time to see the planned itinerary so we missed some of the things we hoped to see. But from what I could tell, there was plenty of parking in the lot so I could not understand that. If you want to see everything I guess you need a full day tour, but I don't think I could take it that long.
Excellent guide! Herculaneum compared to Pompei is smaller but reveals more of interesting building technique and the daily life of upper class inhabitants. The fear of people about to be drowned by mud is memorably exposed by groups of skeletons.
Excellent tour well worth the money. The guide was very informative throughout the visit. Herculaneum is a place everyone has to see if they visit this area. It was as if the people had just gone.
Herculaneum is smaller than Pompeii but goodness me, there is a LOT to explore! Our guide Michael was so knowledgable and gave us valuable insights into the life and times when the town was at its' peak. It should be noted that entrance fees aren't included in the tour price it's stated on the Viator site, but some people on our bus purchased the tour via their hotel and they weren't told. We had Katrina as our host on the bus for both this tour and the Amalfi coast tour and she's lovely! The driver Alberto was great too.
Basically, this is a group bus ride to and from Herculaneum where you skip the line to get in. They also do hotel pick-up/drop-off, so for those who are less able to walk around, it's great. Be warned though - there are a few steps and the walk out of Herculaneum after the tour gives your legs a good workout!
Highly recommend visiting this place!
well worth doing guide was very knowlegeable and moved at an easy pace on a very hot day.
We enjoyed our half day tour to Herculaneum and found the tour a great way to see the highlights of this smaller excavation compared to Pompeii. We did this tour first to ease ourselves into our hectic time seeing the sights of Sorrento area and I am pleased we did as I think it was my least favourite of all the tours we joined in our weeks stay. There was nothing special about our day but also nothing wrong either. I would just say it was okay and a good way to begin to see the area. The guide was pleasant but just felt there was no one thing that made the tour stand out and no real passion, just facts about Herclaneum and a few local points about the journey to the site.
