Excellent experience. A bit chilly and winding making our way up but very enjoyable. Highly recommend all to take wind breakers/jackets. Awesome views from the top!!!
Views from Mount Vesuvius were awesome
Guide Clementina and driver Pino were friendly and good at their jobs....
the trip was enjoyable and the tour guide Gus was very knowledgeable and entertaining.
Climbing Mt Vesuvius was one of my highlights of my trip. The tour is essentially a taxi service, but a very good one. We were picked up from Sorrento and driven to the Mt Vesuvius coach park, stopping along the way to collect other members of our group. There is commentary from the guide on the coach journey but once at Vesuvius the guide does not come with you, you are free to climb alone and the 10 euro ticket to climb is not included in the price of the tour. I was quite happy to go at my own pace and loved every second of this tour!
Driver and guide were excellent and informative and coach was comfy and cool for the trip and just the right amount of time allowed on the top. Only downside was that our pre-booked pick up at 9am was moved to 7.50am the night before the trip without explanation and it then took us 3 hours to get to Vesuvius due to the other pick-ups so a 4 hour trip turned in to almost a full day
Great half day tour very interesting and great views. definitely worth the money good tour
We had a small group of about 10 people on this trip which was ideal. The guide joined us on the climb to the crater we didn't realise how steep the climb would be so comfortable trainers and lots of water are a must! The guide arranged the Vesuvius tour guide once we got to the top of the mountain and allowed us to explore at our leisure once the talk was over. Definitely worth doing as part of a smaller group as opposed to a large excursion.
Good tour, very steep so no good if you have mobility problems. Did see two people at start hoping to take the kids up In A pushchair! Don't think that will have been possible. Only way to get to top is under your own steam!
Also I will point out that when we arrived we were told there were two toilets. In fact only one was open, and apprently it was disgusting, no running water or loo paper, so I didn't bother. Thought to use at decent, but then it was closed. So if you have problems with needing toilet, don't go, as there is nowhere discreet for you to take a pee.
Great experience but expected more information from tour guide on mt vesuvio. You're really just paying for return bus fare to the mountain as you have to pay seperately for entry into the grounds anyway.
Very enjoyable tour. Tour guide Vincenzo was very informative.
Recommend for you to list on your website "suggested attire" in order to be more prepared for this excursion. Wish we had known ahead of time, to wear hiking shoes and or simply closed sturdy walking shoes and wear layers of clothing to adapt to changing temperatures. Also think the guide should accompany the travelers on the walk to ensure they all get from start to finish. Viator should include the $10 euro to complete the hike within the cost , this is the most important aspect of seeing Mt Vesuvius should not be in addtion , just make a part of the overall fee. Lastly, we were more than a bit turned off at the workers that were charging euro to use a port -a -potty. Certainly did not leave a memorable impression of the excursion.
Unfortunately our guides English was not great but she managed to get all the information across fine all the same. I felt we were not given enough time on this trip as unfortunately traffic was pretty heavy getting to Vesuvius and took an hour longer than expected. The guide and driver were aware of the traffic problems around this area at this time of year September but no alterations were made. We were given 75 minutes to get from the parking area to the summit, look around and get back again. It takes around 25 to 30 minutes to walk to the summit depending on how fit you are some of our group took 35 minutes. This does not give you much time to look around or go that little further and gives you no time at all for a guided tour at the top which would have been very interesting.
The tour guide, Katerina, hardly spoke on the journey and the driver Enrico? did not inspire confidence. We were told there were toilet facilities at the coach park, but that was not true. There is only one toilet and that is in a cafe where the owner will not allow you to use it unless you are a customer. To be fair, why should he be expected to provide facilities for the hundreds of tourists that come through every day? Katerina was able to persuade him to unlock the toilet for me as I was desperate and it was filthy and did not flush. Because of my discomfort I was not able to make the ascent despite having paid the 10 but my husband and daughter went up and said it was worth the steep walk. There was a professional guide up there called Raffaele who my daughter described as awesome he was very knowledgeable and interesting and told them about the 79AD eruption and its effects on Pompeii and Herculaneum.Other reviews have said that it should be stated in the details that suitable footwear and clothing should be worn and that is true. While they were up there the clouds rolled in and the temperature dropped considerably. There were many people unprepared for the rough, steep pathway and the changeable weather. There are at least three gift shops selling trinkets made in China but no toilet facilities. I should like to know what the authorities do with the all the 10 fees they collect. This is a world class attraction, is a properly constructed toilet block or even a row of portaloos too much to ask? Apparently so. The coach driver refused to make a toilet stop on the way back and many people were in discomfort by the time they made it back to their hotels. This was a disappointing trip.
This tour only covers the journey to and from Vesuvius. It doesn't cover the cost of getting to the crater which was a further 10 euros each. The air con coach was welcome though. If you are not staying in a hotel or outside sorrento make sure you are clear about the pick up location. This turned out to be ambiguous for us and although the company ensured we got there, it was quite a stressful process!
I would not recommend going from Sorrento to Vesuvius without going to Pompeii as well. Katerina was our guide and barely spoke on the bus ride, once we got there the volcanoe was amazing however there were hundreds of tourists and one locked restroom it was awful Katerina kept telling us the restroom was open but it was not. we asked to stop somewhere to use facilities on the way home and were told absolutely no so 4.5 hours with no facilities after a climb/water was not pleasant.
the climb is steep, rocky/dusty and very chilly and windy. while we made it all the way there were a lot of folks not prepared so they should be warned ahead of time about no flip flops/bring a jacket. I would only tell others to do this trip in combination with Pompeiiat least there are services there/lunch etc. I would suggest offering this combination only.
Tour was with AVI they only send out pick-up times the day before but they do have an office in Via P R Guiliani in the centre of Sorrento which we visited to obtain our pick-up time. This opens at 1000 hrs. We had to pay 10 Euros each to climb to the crater but the ticket we received on arrival only stated 8 Euros! The guide had said that there were toilet facilities on arrival but the reality was there was 1 toilet in a bar which was for customers only which was being policed by the owner! THERE ARE NO PUBLIC TOILETS ON MOUNT VESUVIUS but the Italian authorities have managed to build 3 gift shops! We were kept hanging around for ages for everyone to assemble and climb to the crater for a 15/20 talk from the mountain guide. It would have been better if we had been told a time to assemble for the expert talk so we could have explored the crater more fully in our own time. All credit to the coach driver for getting us there and back safe and sound though.
