After pickup in Sorrento at your hotel or the cruise port, travel in a climate-controlled private vehicle for one hour to reach Herculaneum.
As you approach the town, your driver stops at a viewpoint overlooking the ruins so that you can view the ancient town from above. Upon arrival at the ruins, your driver drops you off at the entrance to the archaeological site. Purchase your ticket (own expense) and take two hours for your self-guided tour of the ruins.
The site was discovered in 1709 and remains preserved as it was more than 2,000 years ago during the Roman era. The volcanic mud and ash that covered the region during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 CE left this town well preserved. See original woodwork, clay pots, and well-preserved skeletons, although it seems that many inhabitants managed to escape, unlike in Pompeii. View key spots such as the public baths with their mosaics and frescoes, the gymnasium, shops, and more.
After two hours in the ruins, your driver picks you up for the return to Sorrento, with drop-off at your hotel around 1pm.
