What You Can Expect

Plitvice Lakes Day Trip from Split

Enjoy a day out of the city and discover the magnificent Plitvice Lakes

Get picked up at your hotel in Split to begin this exciting day trip tour out of the city. Ride in an air-conditioned shuttle for 3.5 hours as you learn about the history and bio-diversity of the national park, which is the biggest and oldest in the country.

After arriving in Plitvice Lakes National Park, hop off the shuttle and begin exploring the park, marveling at the diversity of trees there: from pine to spruce to beech trees and the verdant ferns that blanket the forest floor. The trail can be steep at times, going down as much as 300 steps, but it’s well worth it, as you’ll find out.

The hiking route covers a distance of approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km), so be sure to bring comfortable shoes. Stroll along the trails, taking in the colorful wild floors that flank your way, and pass over wooden bridges that afford incredible extremely picture-worthy photos of the turquoise lakes, streams and waterfalls.

Hop on an electric boat to get an even better look at the lakes, as you cruise along the clear water, the color of which feels like it’s straight out of a dreamed-up fantasy land.

After the ride, keep going on foot as you marvel at the views of the higher lakes. Later opt either for a bus or a train ride for the final panoramic view of the the lakes and surrounding forests. Then take 60 minutes of free time to do some more exploring or grab lunch (at own expense) at a restaurant, before returning to the shuttle for the ride back to Split where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel.

We did this tour on my birthday and what an amazing day, our guide was very knowledgeable and considerate of everyone, we had the local food which was amazing and was nice to go to try the local food.
Is well worth paying the extra to be within a smaller group. and we were lucky that the park wasn't very busy so managed to get some amazing photos, I will never forget this place.

Definitely a worthwhile experience- gorgeous park w/ amazing waterfalls and tropical colored water! However, if possible I'd highly recommend arranging from a location closer than Split- The 3 hour drive each way is a super long day. Our guide, Iris, was very informative on our drive there but was detached @ park where she was often on her cell phone and unjustly reprimanded a couple different partcipants. Overall, we had a wonderful day walking the trails and were fortunate that the park was not overly crowded as mentioned in other reviews.

Nothing to say except that a trip to Croatia that does not include Plitvice Lakes is the a wasted opportunity of monumental proportions. It will be the highlight of your trip. This tour is exceptional and special and a memory I will treasure for my lifetime.

Our tour guide was very knowledgable and had the best disposition -- energetic, enthusiastic and very passionate. He knew exactly where to take us to avoid the crowds of the national park, and led us through a great tour of this beautiful area. Be aware that this tour and visit in general requires some hiking including slippery, wet and uneven steps. Our visit was rainy and cold, and it seemed like some people were unprepared for the amount of walking involved note: bring layers for warmth and wear comfortable shoes with a good grip. I was fine in sneakers, but if you're not used to walking on uneven terrain/hiking regularly, something with more grip like a hiking book might be advised. My only critique of the tour itself were the stops made on the drive with 20 minute breaks -- restroom stops on the long drives were appreciated, but I wish they had been quicker in order to get us to the national park and then back sooner. Overall, I highly recommend this trip and tour!

Travel from and back to Split was made comfortable by driver Tomislav. Guide Ivana was pleasant, informative and helpful and paced the 10Km approx. trip around the upper and lower lakes to perfection for a group that consisted of 4 year old to retired people using walking canes. There was a short boat ride and a bus ride as well in the national park. The lakes are surreal and a must see!

A must see in Croatia. Our guide was fabulous. The park is stunning. Although it is a Very long day if doing from Split. In my opinion it was worth it in a day tour, but I am sure not everyone feels that way.

What a phenomenal tour! We took one of our days in Split for this adventure. It was a long day as it was 6 hours on a bus going there and back, but was well worth it! This was one of the most beautiful places we have ever been. Don't miss out!
