Following pickup from your North Island hotel, transfer to the harbor to board the comfortable catamaran. Find a spot on deck in the sun or shade and watch the scenery of the St Lucia's west coast pass by. At Soufriere, disembark to explore some of the island's top attractions. Pause for photos of the Pitons, the St Lucia's iconic mountains that tower 2,000 feet (600 meters) over this part of the island. With your guide, make your way to Diamond Botanical Gardens, located on a verdant plantation estate. Follow your guide down easy walking trails featuring beautiful examples of local flora and fauna Continue to the Sulphur Springs, the world's only drive-in volcano. The sulphuric thermal pools here were created thousands of years ago by a collapsed volcanic crater. Make your way to a local restaurant for a traditional Creole-style buffet lunch. Then return to the boat for a sail up the coast and into Marigot Bay. Make a stop for swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing before returning to shore for the ride back to your North Island hotel.
Overall it was a good experience. The Catamaran was pretty big and didn't feel crowded. It had some age showing though, especially the rope netting at the front. Most of the other catamaran's we saw had a web strapping and ours had a bunch of frayed edges and was a lot of patchwork. Not exactly inspiring confidence. Luckily there was plenty of Rum Punch and Piton beer for courage. The views from the boat were great, especially when we near the South end of the island and the Pitons. It was spectacular.
The best part for us was the boat ride and the walk through the gardens. We were lucky to have a very knowledgeable guide, Romaine, who kept us informed. He was fantastic throughout the day in fact. We spent a good amount of time at the gardens, and then got lunch. Lunch was a buffet at that chocolate plantation. The food was good and included grilled chicken and fried fish with lots of sides.
I thought the waterfall was sort of a joke and could easily be skipped. It's not a big waterfall by any stretch, and it was literally a line of 100+ people just waiting to stand near it and take pictures. Silly. The mud baths weren't for me either, the water was way too hot for me to want to get in when it was 90+ degrees outside. Other people really seemed to enjoy this though, and it's worth checking out. What should be noted is you don't really see anything like a 'volcano', just some sulfur springs that you drive by (you can't even see them really).
We enjoyed the snorkeling but it was a very short amount of time. Maybe 15 minutes before they were trying to get us back to the boat.
On the way back the crew played some games with us and then there was lots of music and dancing. Overall a good time.
FYI it was over a 9.5 hour trip from the time we were picked up at Sandals Grande to the time we were dropped back off. Just be aware it's a FULL day.
Great day out - picked up on time. The crew are are very safety conscious , really friendly and informative.
The trips to various locations all well organised. We did the botanical gardens and volcano trip followed by lunch - which was lovely with good choice of food. The trip back included a swim and snorkelling.
Of course rum punch and Pinton beer readily available on board!!!
We had a great time on this trip - the only thing that I would change is to have someone man the bar all the time. We had quite a long time that we could not get beer due to the keg emptying and the woman had to wait until one of they guys was free to change it. The staff is always courteous, friendly and helpful!
The outing was good, not great. Boat was very full, which is to be expected during the Christmas and New Years busy season. They were not very organized we didnt think. Going from the boat docking in Soufrière to the vans/taxis was a bit of a scramble. We were told to follow the group and the van we ended up in was told we had to pay to get in the botanical gardens. After a bit of conversation we were seemingly reluctantly permitted to join the groups from our boat. We had no tickets or any sort of proof of who we were with. So a bit confusing for about 6 of us from the boat.
Following that we had a really interesting tour of the gardens. Our guide was really good. Bubba Lou I think his name was.
The volcano was also pretty interesting although it wasnt clear why we had to choose between either a mud bath OR a look at the steaming bubbling crater because they were only a short walk from one another and the same cost to enter. Would have liked to see the mud bath too.
The lunch was good. It was at a cocoa plantation but there wasnt really any information provided about the goings on at the plantation or about the cocoa industry etc. So we we were left just to wonder.
After the lunch it was back to the boat for the trip north and a quick stop into Marigot Bay.
Was expecting at least a bit of a sailing experience but the boat powered the entire trip. The masts stayed neatly tucked away, too bad.
Crew were friendly and they liked to party after the snorkeling was all done!! Also have to say the boat was well maintained.
We had a fantastic time with this tour and highly recommend to anyone who wants to get away from the resort for a great day on the water. Thanks to all the staff who made it an amazing day....another reason to come back to St. Lucia!!
Excellent deal for the money. On time pickup and drive to the marina then off we sailed down the west coast. Plenty of food, drinks and music. Much to see including Marigot marina, Castries and port, Pitons and Jade Mountain Resort. Soufriere mud bath, Diamond water falls and snorkeling on the coast were the highlights of the trip. Will definitely re-book when in St Lucia.
This was one of the best tours we've ever had, and the best money spent. The guides were very friendly, and accommodating. This experience had a little bit of everything, awesome rum punch, delicious lunch, great places to visit, and it wrapped up with dancing. If you are in St. Lucia, you must go on this excursion.
