What You Can Expect

Half Day Tour of Peterhof (Petrodvorets)

Half Day Tour of Peterhof (Petrodvorets)

Start your tour with a hotel pickup from St Petersburg and travel to Peterhof, the palatial residence and estate of Tsar Peter the Great.
With your guide, you’ll explore the vast gardens and Grand Palace, both of which are often called the ‘Russian Versailles.’ Explore the elaborate fountains that pepper the stretching Lower Park, and hear how the 18th-century water creations run without the need for pumps.
Have your camera ready for a snap next to the golden statue of Sampson, grabbing a lion’s jaws, and check out other noteworthy water features including a black-and-white chess board fountain and another featuring Chinese dragons.
Then, head inside to admire the interiors of the Grand Palace with its richly gilded halls and sumptuous furnishings. As you wander amid the opulence, listen to your guide’s commentary to learn about the extravagance of Tsar Peter the Great, for whom the estate was built.Check out more fountains in the French-esque Upper Garden, and search for the trick fountains that surprise the unsuspecting.
When your tour ends, finish your day trip with a drop-off back at your St Petersburg hotel.

Everything went according to plan. Our guide Dasha, was highly knowledgeable and an altogether enjoyable person. Peterhof is a rare treasure and we are glad we made the trip.

Very good. We booked the tour to go there on a Monday then we learnt later that the palace is usually closed on Monday. We wrote an enquiry to the tour operator, who responded well and reassured that the tour would go on. Then we could really enter the palace on that day ! Along with a number of other guided tours

On the half day tour you get to go thru the palace and the lower gardens. While these are spectacular, on busy days you will be rushed thru the palace. If possible try to see the lower garden first and then the palace later in the day.
Our guide was very good the the transportation back and forth from the hotel was also very good. The only bad experience was having to wait in two entrance lines because they were giving our guide the run around on which entrance to use. This easily wasted a half an hour of our time there.
If you want to see more than those areas then look at a longer tour because there is lots to see.

Out of all the tours, the Midnight St Petersburg Cruise: Drawbridges and Canals and this one took the cake for me and my family. Petrodvorets is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. The best manicured lawns, and prettiest fountains I have ever seen. And also... HAND-FED SQUIRRELS! Bring some nuts with you to feed these cute little animals. It's quite an experience. I can't recommend this tour enough.

Bring a camera, lots of photo opportunities. If you're staying in St. Petersburg CBD, then there is a bit of a drive involved and you can fit in some sleep.

The tour guide was also very good and incredibly knowledgeable. Afterwards, he even showed us where to buy souvenirs, and a nice place to get food for a reasonable price at restaurant DEL MAR. Highly recommended, well worth the price.

Also, bring some rubles with you to buy some GLINTVEIN at the start of the journey. It's an amazing drink, and really warms you up from the cold. 5/5- an excellent experience.
