The local guide was fantastic, very knowledgeable and passionate about their city. It was one of the best tours I've been on. I would thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone.
Silvantna was outstanding.
We saw everything we wanted to see and more
Our trip was booked through Viator with a tour guide company called MaxiBaltTours. We were told that the maximum party would be 10 people and we would be guide around by an experienced guide. Our experience was on coming down the ships footway to find a MaxiBaltTour guide waiting for us and informing us there would be just the two of us to be escorted on our two-day tour. Our guides name was Mikhail Yuryevich, who was to use just one word Brilliant. Our transport was a leather seated people carrier from which we hardly had to walk further than 40 yards to get to each venue.
Most people on our cruise had not heard of Viator and were slightly sceptical about booking Russian guides in Britain but were also keen to hear of our experience. When we told them of all the places that we had visited in the two days and of our absolute endorsement of Viator and MaxiBaltTours they were keen to write down details of how to book them for future visits to St Petersburg.
Wonderful! Well organised, brilliant guide, really made the 2 days in St Petersburg worthwhile.
Our tour guide, Marianna, was outstanding in every respect. She was professional, knowledgeable, efficient, polite, friendly and spoke perfect English. The site visits were timed perfectly and we didn't waste any time waiting. We couldn't imagine a more enjoyable, educational and productive visit to St Petersburg.
Russia is different ... arriving in a large cruise ship we lined up for well over an hour to clear through immigration but then that is part of the Russian experience. Our choice had been to take the ship's shore excursion or that offered by Viator ... and my wife and I are so very glad we took the Viator option. Clearing immigration we were quickly met by our tour guide and taken to the bus ... not the standard 55 seater where you need headphones just to hear the guide, but a person bus with just three other couples on board. The beauty of the Viator tour was its flexibility. When we arrived at the Hermitage, bad weather had meant there were hundreds of people lined up, many from our ship. Our guide immediately bypassed the Hermitage and took us to the next site with the Hermitage put later on the program. End result, we simply seemed to miss the crowds, got in quickly and had plenty of time to explore each site with our guide. It felt personal and private and, as a result, we managed to get into many sites that the cruise excursion did not, especially the Church of Our Saviour of the Spilled Blood. Being a small group the tour was self paced with the only deadline being the time we had to be back on the ship for departure on the second day. You wont regret booking a Viator excursion in Russia.
The two day trip was 5 star without a doubt. Our tour guide, Mikhail Glushkolf, was the best. His knowledge of the city was outstanding.

This was an excellent tour and much cheaper than the equivalent provided by our cruise company. We were a group of 17 and we were greeted by our guide Anna and shown to our bus. From the moment she started to provide us with information you could tell this was going to be a great trip. This is a busy tour and being in a small group, along with Anna's guidance, helped get us through the turnstiles and into each venue quickly. No long treks from coach parks as the mini bus could get right up close to each visit. The scenery was stunning and along with Anna's information proved to be a very informative and interesting trip. Anna was brilliant and she even had to deal with one of our party needing medical attention and needing to go to hospital. She even kept us informed of their condition throughout the afternoon of the trip. Helped by Elijah the driver Anna got us to places quickly but did not skimp on information or time at each location. The trip round the Hermitage was stunning along with Catherine Palace and other sites. A three course lunch is provided each day and was typical Russian fare which was very enjoyable. Bottles of water were also provided as part of the cost which was very good. This is the first time I have used Viator and booked for a party of six people who were all very impressed with Anna's knowledge and professionalism. I will definitely be using Viator again for trips abroad, it will save me a lot of money but will provide the same, if not better, experience.
This was a wonderful experience and Alexi, our guide, couldn't have been more interesting and presented the information well. I would highly recommend this excursion and local tour company.
Michael was an excellent guide. Incredible knowledge of the history of St Petersberg. Door to door travel with no queueing. Evening folk dancing was fantastic. Learnt so much about Russia and #39;s past and present. It was a lot for our children to get through but Michael kept them interested.
The best tour with the most informed and informative guide on our month long trip. We saw the best of the best in a city that has sooooo much to see. Anna, our guide, is brilliant. This was operated by a local tour company. There were 9 on our big comfortable van together
Excellent tour - saw everything there was to see. Couldn't fault it - well organised.
Great excursion. Maryanne was an excellent guide. Well paced, interesting stops. Fluent , clear English. Definitely recommend.
Tour was professional at all levels. Punctual, neat, understandable and well managed. NO COMPLAINTS ! Small group size, allowed parking closer to venues and ability to vary arrival times to avoid points of conjestion. MUCH BETTER AND CHEAPER THAN CRUISE LINE OFFERING.
Our guide Olga was great. The tour was small just eight people. It was just like booking a private tour. Loved the 2 days in St. Petersburg. The ride on the Metro was unique and an out of the box experience.
Small group in tour made it easy to ask questions and hear what the guide was telling about each place we visited. The guide was a local and therefore, was able to tell the history of each place we visited. A great experience and would recommend this tour.
We had a fantastic trip with our Guide Maria and driver Oleg. They were always punctual, gave us really interesting information and showed a light-hearted sense of humour!!!! This trip was a small group of 14, so we rarely had to queue or wait long periods of time for 50 people to gather. I would recommend this company to everyone - it was excellent and of course great value for money!!!!
Really enjoyable. Our Tour Operator Maria was very informative and really made our tour well worth doing. We were left with so many memories of our fantastic visit to St Petersburg.
This was a wonderful tour with an exceptional guide! Marina took us everywhere there was to go in the two days we spent with her. We were a group of 6 and were able to fit things in during the day that would never have happened on a shipboard tour.
We chose the small group tour because it covered all the famous places, but also the metro which we had not seen offered anywhere else and that did turn out to be a highlight. We were a group of 13 in total, 4 of us all retired and beyond! and 9 from another boat. Plenty of room in our air conditioned bus and enjoyable lunches in pleasant restaurants included. Our guide Elena was lovely, really engaging, fluent in English, full of energy and enjoyably informative. She showed her experience by the way she expertly shepherded us around even the busiest places without us feeling crowded or rushed at all even though she adhered to the tight timetable. Our company rep was Alexei who was charming and effIcient from the first morning when we met him ready and waiting for us even though the boat arrived early. till he met us back at the boat to say farewell and make that we had truly enjoyed our trip. And on the first evening he happily organised a a theatre trip as an addition just for the 4 of us and accompanied us to the theatre till we were seated and then and collected us after and returned us to the boat. I would recommend this tour to anyone. You will be amazed at just how much you can see in 2 days and at all times you will feel really well looked after. We couldn't ask for more.
GREAT excursion. The ship's tours were much more expensive and if you do things on your own, you have to buy an expensive visa. This tour includes all the touring and you DO NOT need a visa per the title of the tour visa free. Our tour guide Anna was beyond amazing. I think she said she had studied for year's and had to pass several tests to be a tour guide and it showed. She knew every detail and fact in her memory...and spoke perfect English. Our 2 teenagers learned so much and it's hard to keep them engaged for 2 days from 8am - 5pm as it's a lot, but they took a lot away as Anna had so much offer. There also is a portion of the bus ride each day, where the teens and adults got to take a 30 min. nap while driving to the next site and that quick down time is helpful during 2 long days. This is such a great way to see St. Petersburg when you have limited time. They provide rain ponchos and water and lunch both days and it was very good food. Ice cream both days for dessert. Salads and Soup to start. They even offer a vegetarian option if you ask. They give out free vodka samples at souvenir shops. Anna also was very protective of our group. If other tours tried to push into our way, she would set them straight. She also made sure we had the best spots to view things. She really dedicated herself 110 to us for those days so I cannot say enough about her. She loves her country and is proud of their heritage and it shows in all she taught us of their history and sites. Of course the Palaces and Cathedrals and the Hermitage were beyond beautiful, but one of my favorite components of the 2 days was our quick tour of the subway/metro. We walked through and saw the beautiful mosaics on the walls. We saw the real people of Russia rushing to/fro in their daily lives instead of everything else we saw with tourists. We got on and went 1 stop which was a great sample of their metro system and was a lot of fun as we went during rush hour.
