Treat yourself to a day of whisky appreciation with a 8.5-hour tasting trip from Edinburgh. Wind through the Scottish Lowlands to a historic whisky-producing region, where you’ll visit Glengoyne Distillery and Deanston Distillery for informative tasting sessions and tours. Discover the centuries-old tradition of Scottish whisky production, view warehouses stocked with aged casks and marvel at the quiet beauty of Loch Lomond.
  • Full-day whisky-tasting tour from Edinburgh
  • Learn about the history of Scotland and its signature drink on the drive through the Scottish countryside
  • Tour two distilleries and sample expertly aged whisky crafted by the masters
  • Enjoy free time to have lunch and explore Loch Lomond
Your 8.5-hour tasting excursion sets off from Edinburgh in the morning. Meet your guide in city center and take a comfortable seat in the van for the 1.5-hour drive into the Scottish Lowlands. As you travel west, listen as your guide shares fascinating information about Scotland’s most famous drink – many centuries ago called the ‘water of life’ and used as a health tonic. Hear about the high standard of whisky-production that has made Scotland a premier global producer.
North of Glasgow, you’ll stop at Glengoyne Distillery in Dumgoyne. Renowned for its distillation process – one of the slowest in the world! – Glengoyne makes a masterful art of whisky-making. Tour the grounds, learn about the complex production process and enjoy samples of rich 12- and 18-year old products.
Then head into Trossachs National Park for a beautiful scenic drive through forest-covered terrain and dramatic mountain peaks. You’ll stop near Loch Lomond for a hearty pub lunch (own expense) – good for balancing out a day of whisky tasting!
Afterward, head to Deanston Distillery, situated in a converted cotton mill on the River Teith. Repurposing the mill’s original hydroelectric generators, Deanston is notably the most environmentally friendly distillery in Scotland. Tour the space and enjoy a fun sensory tasting of two different types of single malt Scotch. Test your tastebuds for hints of lemon zest, nutmeg, barley, toffee, cocoa and vanilla. Don’t forget to stop by the onsite shop to pick up some of your favorite drink before departing.
To end your trip, relax for the hour-long ride head back to Edinburgh, arriving by evening.

Great tour and our driver, Dave Fletcher (or Fletch) was so funny and informative. He made the tour just that much better. Both distilleries, although completely different, gave a wide variety of offerings and I took advantage of both Company stores.

Good Whisky, Beautiful Scenery, and a great day all around. I very much enjoyed this tour and though the guide, Stevie, was a wonderful guide. I did however leave this tour with food poisoning so just be careful if you are planning to eat things you don’t normally (like haggis).

This is a fun tour for both whisky novices and experts. We toured two distilleries, including one which was actually in production during our visit. The tour provided a respite from the city for the day and an opportunity to see the Scottish countryside. Our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and provided history along the drive. Keep in mind that you will have to pay for tastings at each distillery. Although the prices are nominal, it would have been more convenient if this option had been provided upfront when booking the tour. Overall, I would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to spend the day in the country and taste some great whisky.

This was a great tour! Keith was an amazing tour guide and I really enjoyed his anecdotes about Scottish football on the drive to the distilleries. He does quite a few different whisky tours and was very knowledgeable about the different regions for whisky and what each of the regions means for the different tastes and distilling processes. Would absolutely recommend to a friend, and try to get Keith if you can!

The driver was excellent and in fact was the highlight of the tour. The explanations of whisky production by the distillery guides failed to clearly convey the process. However, it was worthwhile just to spend time with Mike the driver who was a fountain of knowledge about Scottish history and culture.

Yuen was an amazing guide. He made the experience that much more enjoyable. I knew nothing about whisky while my boyfriend was more experienced on the subject, and we both really enjoyed this. The two distilleries were both amazing to see, and the lunch was perfect.
