What You Can Expect

Alsace Day Trip from Strasbourg: Colmar, Eguisheim, Riquewihr, High Koenigsbourg Castle

Explore the fairytale-like Haut Koenigsbourg castle on your full-day tour from Strasbourg

Your day trip from Strasbourg begins when you meet your guide aboard the awaiting minivan in the town center. Settle into air-conditioned comfort for the scenic drive.

The first stop is the village of Colmar, where you’ll go on a walking tour with your guide. The town’s cobblestoned streets are lined with characteristic German-style half-timbered buildings, and you’ll even see some canals. See Colmar’s main sights, including Saint Martin’s Church and the 16th-century Pfister House, and wander historic neighborhoods like Little Venice.

Your next stop is the picturesque town of Eguisheim, known for its Medieval buildings decorated with flowers, and then it’s on to Riquewihr. The charming town sits inside Medieval walls, and is a warren of meandering alleys and chocolate-box houses. Enjoy some time to explore the pretty town at your leisure, including time to have lunch (own expense).

Continuing on your Alsace tour, the next point of interest is the 105-mile (170 km) Alsace Wine Route (Route des Vins d’Alsace). This scenic road curves gently through rolling hills and past acres of vineyards at the foot of the Vosges Mountains. Stop at a winery for a guided wine tasting session, then get back on the road toward your final stop — Haut Koenigsbourg Castle (Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg).

The castle dates from the 12th century, and you’ll have a chance to explore the inside — including where people once lived inside it — and find out how this powerful fortress used to control the salt, wheat and wine routes from northern and eastern Europe. Admire the excellent views from the castle’s hilltop vantage point before climbing back into the minivan for the drive back to Strasbourg at the starting point of the tour.

This was a very full itinerary, and our guide never for a moment waivered in her enthusiasm and passion. Florence was an outstanding guide for our first family trip to Alsace with boys aged 9 and 10--so very different from other regions of France. My wife and I would have gladly joined her for the next day's wine route tour, but for the aforementioned kids. Next time!

This was a wonderful tour that my daughter and I enjoyed. Our guide Florencia was terrific. She was a fantastic tour guide. The tour was in English, but our guide was able to also speak to the Spanish speakers on our tour. We loved the tour of the beautiful city of Colmar. Eguisheim and Riquewihr were towns out of a fairytale. The Koenigsburg Castle was very interesting. We did not have a car on our trip, so it was nice to be able to tour the surrounding towns by being driven there.

Great guide with lots of local knowledge of the towns and places we visited. Good amount of time to explore on our own. Nice van for transportation. Good to only have one high quality wine tasting....it was fun and enough of a tasting for the day's excursion! S.and S.McC.

This was a very enjoyable and informative tour. There were 8 in the group and the tour vehicle was a very comfortable Mercedes Van. Our guide Arianna was a local resident and very knowledgeable regarding the area. The small villages were scenic and charming. A very nice wine tasting at a local wine making spot - we bought a bottle of Pinot Gris that we shared later that evening at the B and B that was delicious. The ride through the vineyards and then up the mountain to the Castle was spectacular. This was a long day, but well worth it.

My husband and I took several tours as we visited three countries. Our experience on this tour was by far the best!! Daniele, our tour guide, set the right tone and pace during this day long tour! She was very knowledgeable and offered some personal anecdotes that made the region come alive! ❤️

This trip was wonderful - I went with my parents and we loved it. Our tour guide Arianne was amazing - she gave us tons of info about the Alsace region and its interesting history throughout the trip. We visited three charming little French towns and a castle, and had a wine tasting session with Sebastian at his winery - a very informative and enjoyable experience. The trip doesn't include a visit to the actual vineyards to see people pick the grapes, though. There's also some climbing to do for the castle visit, but the walking tours of the villages are done at a very easy pace. All in all, if you have a whole day to spend, this trip is a must-do!

This was an excellent tour which my husband and I took in early September. Colmar, Equisheim and Riquewihr are charming villages and worth a visit. Koenigsbourg Castle is very impressive and has a fascinating history. The visit to the small winery was pleasant. Our guide was very knowledgable, pleasant and worked hard to ensure that everyone in the group enjoyed the experience. We enjoyed the tour would recommend it

This was a wonderful day. Our tour guide, Danielle went out of her way to pick us up at Strasbourg Station after there was a change of trains and we arrived late. A lovely day. Thank you.
