What To Expect

Meet your knowledgeable guide at the tourist information office in the middle of Strasbourg, where you’ll climb into a comfortable minivan to start your tour. Head out along the Alsace Wine Route (Routes des Vins d’Alsace in French), which is a 105-mile (170-km) route winding through the rolling hills at the base of the Vosges Mountains. This area is home to hundreds of famous vineyards.

The first stop on your wine tour is the wine area called Mittelbergheim, where the grands crus of Kastelberg, Zotzenberg and Wiebelsberg are located. This area is known for its excellent Riesling wines, which are typically thought of as German. At the first winery of your tour, sample Riesling along with some sylvaner and pinot blanc.

Next, head for Dambach-la-Ville. This village produces more wine than any other in Alsace, including one of the finest Alsatian wines of all — frankstein grand cru. At the second winery stop of the tour, sample wines in a classic wine cellar (caveau in French) while learning how the region’s soil and climate combine to produce exceptional Riesling and gewürztraminer wines.

Take a break at midday for lunch (own expense), followed by a visit to the Ribeauvillé-Riquewihr wine area. There are five grands cru here — Kirchberg, Osterberg, Geisberg, Schoenenbourg and Sporen. Here again you’ll find the wine production is dominated by Riesling, although other wines of note include Muscat, gewürztraminer and pinot gris.

Spend some time in the charming villages of Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr, where you’ll have your last two wine tasting sessions at two of the best-loved wineries in the Alsace. Hear about how some of the chateaux making wine in the area — such as the Hugel and Trimbach families — have been making wine in the area for hundreds of years.

At the conclusion of a day-long wine tour through the Alsace, climb back into the minivan for the relaxing ride back to Strasbourg.

Wonderful Introduction to Alsace Wines
Erica_Z, Dec 2022
We had a wonderful experience and enjoyed the tour by our guide, Laurent. Meetup was easy and he was a very informative and engaging. The only minor challenge we ran into was finding a place for lunch in the small village we stopped. It was a Saturday so many of the restaurants were already at capacity. But we managed to find a place off the main square and enjoyed some local cuisine. I would absolutely book this tour again and highly recommend it to wine lovers or anyone just starting to explore wine tasting.
Wonderful time!

Laurent had so much fun history and knowledge to share with us during the tour. We learned a lot about Alsatian wine and culture. All the wineries we visited were wonderful!
Disappointing wine ‘tour’
Earl_P, Oct 2022
Good morning, I am sorry to say that our experience yesterday was very much a let down. We have done a lot of wine tours in France and found this one to be one we will remember for all the wrong reasons. The information on your site tells us that we would spend the day travelling down the route des vins in Alsace taking in all the lovely villages as we make our way to 3 wineries. I can tell you that we spent more time on the autoroute than anywhere else during the day. I think in total we spent 15 min on the route des vins. My wife sat in the front and every time we headed back to the autoroute asked about the route des vins. We arrived back in Strasbourg 1 hour early, telling me we had loads of time to travel back looking at the beautiful scenery that I am told the area has. Not looking at the back and sides of trucks. Our driver at the end said , I am sorry for not being a good guide today , as I was very tired after a long season and had to concentrate on my driving. At this point he stopped the van and said that is it. We where not back at the place of departure and it took us a little while to figure out our location. Earl

Bonjour Earl P, We are sorry to hear about your disappointing experience with us. We take very seriously the comments of our clients. That's why we asked for details to the guide who led the tour on that day. From Strasbourg to the Wine Route in Alsace, there are about 35km (22 miles), so the highway can't be avoided for this part of the journey. Your guide followed the Wine Route from Goxwiller to Barr and stopped at Gertwiller and Barr. There, the wine tasting lasted longer than usual, so after that the guide decided to take a little part of highway to get to Ribeauville and let you have enough time for the lunch break. The last tasting was at Ribeauville, a beautiful village of the Alsace Wine Route. After the last tasting, the guide asked to your group if everybody wanted to continue to follow the Wine Route or coming back to Strasbourg. It seems that everbody wanted to finish quickly the tour, and your group arrived earlier than planned, at 4:30pm instead of 5pm. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your opinion with us, we sincerely hope you will have the opportunity to follow us again on another tour in France. Best Carole from Ophorus tours

Our tour started on time...
Cemil_C, Oct 2022
Our tour started on time and we had a very nice guide. The selected wineries were very good and the owners were really experts on their area. We went to 3 wineries were we were able to taste different styles. The only tip I could give is to give a more time for lunch. For the rest if you know wine and want to know the region I could recommend the trip.

Relaxing Wine Route
Kyle_B, Jul 2022
This was an excellent experience! Beautiful scenery, delicious wine, and professional service. Our guide Pauline was friendly and knowledgeable about wine and the are. She planned a great day with a variety of wineries. This tour was a great way to become familiar with Alsacean wine. We tasted over 10 different wines and got to learn about the different processes. There was no pressure to purchase wine, which we appreciated as we travelled only with carry-on. We also did not have a car. If you’re looking to see the vines, meet the winemakers, and learn about the process and history in the area this tour is a great choice.
Perfect for couples
Karen_K, Jul 2022
Wonderful day trip to 3 charming villages with pick-up from Strasbourg. Each stop offered wine tastings and some history of the Alsace wine region. Our guide, Oade (sorry if I am misspelling your name!) was lovely and interactive. We were lucky and there was only one other couple in our tour, so it was an intimate experience. My only suggestion would be to offer hotel drop-off. After purchasing 3 cases of wine, we had to walk 1 mile from the drop-off point in 30C weather lugging the wine on our shoulders..... No ubers/cabs were available.

Extraordinary scenery; very warm guide and very knowledgeable, and also with a sense of humor. We learned new things and met lovely people. We had a very nice time.

Winery tour
jacquidavidson1, May 2022
Robin our driver and guide was excellent but there were problems with the second winery we were due to visit which was not expecting us. Robin found an alternative but it was tokenisation. At the third winery we had a tour of the processing works which was excellent but the winery were hosting an event and our tastings were a very hit and miss unorganised affair. Robin was rerrific throughout. Orpheus the tour company were lacking.

Wonderful tour of the Alsace wine route. Our guide took us to three wineries where we tasted many different wines. Our small group was treated very well, and our tour guide Pauline was exceptional. She was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the area, wine, culture, and the wine route. I highly recommend this tour.
