Overview

Get a comprehensive overview of Viking history in Sweden and its effects on modern Scandinavian culture during this 8-hour tour from Stockholm. Visit the most important Viking sites, including Sigtuna and Markim-Orkesta, with transportation provided from central Stockholm.
  • Activities for kids
  • Comprehensive 8-hour Viking history tour
  • Swedish cinnamon bun and Viking-style mead
  • Transportation from central Stockholm and between Viking history sites
Find your way to Stockholm's Central Station to meet your guide and group, then climb aboard and travel into the surrounding countryside. Stop first a replica of a Viking farm (seasonal; Saturdays April to October, Wednesdays June to August) to learn about life on a working Viking farm from the onsite guide.
At the Viking parliament, imagine the powerful leaders making important decisions on that very spot. Cross the 495-foot (150-meter) Jarlabanke's bridge, built by the powerful Viking leader centuries ago. Listen to a message written on a rune stone that flanks the bridge in Old Norse. At Broby, a Viking graveyard, learn about the only identified Viking woman's skeleton in Sweden, well-known as Estrid.
Stop for lunch in Vallentuna (own expense); your guide will make some restaurant suggestions.
Continue on to Markim-Orkesta, a pair of historic countryside parishes, where you'll see the Orkesta rune stone. Stop at a local farm to see some of the Icelandic horses, then make another stop at the Nordian Burial Mound, the largest in Stockholm county.
The day's final stop is in Sigtuna, a historic village, where you'll follow your guide on a 60-minute walking tour. Take a break for 'fika' or coffee and a snack, then spend an hour of free time exploring the town on your own.
Return to the city for drop-off at your departure point.

I really enjoyed this tour! Very interesting and informative. Angus, our tour guide, is very knowledgeable about the Viking history and he's also cool and witty! For me, Angus is the best tour guide I've met so far! Jonathan, who assisted Angus in the beginning of the tour is also good and cool! Special thanks also so Anna-Cari who was our tour guide in the Viking Village. And of course, I will not forget the most famous among them all -- Agnes the Viking Dog! :

If you like history and you are interested about the Vikings, I really recommend this tour!

Angus was our guide for this tour, which ended up being a private 5 hour tour, due to lack of bookings. He was extremely knowledgeable and informative. Angus was assisted by another member of his team who was also a pleasure to meet and learn from. We enjoyed every minute of our time with Angus, even in the pouring rain. Congratulations on providing an excellent experience for us. Thanks.

There were six of us, stuffed into a Ford Galaxy with our driver/guide, Angus. Very uncomfortable for a full day tour, with lots of stops and getting in and out of the car. Angus did not seem very enthusiastic about the tour, almost bored. He went through the motions of telling us where we were and what we were seeing but the two local guides, one at the farmhouse where the burial mounds were, and Jonathan who was at the last couple of rune stone sites, were much, much better guides and were interesting. Sigtuna was a disappointment, especially after Old Town in Stockholm itself, and a lot of time was spent looking at and driving to find rune stones. This would have been better as a half-day tour.

This was a history tour with great facts and details to back up sites viewed. Our guide made seaming ordinary rock decorations and village reconstruction sites from 1,000 years ago come alive. How the Viking age of warriors started and ended was vividly described.

Overall this is a very interesting and informative tour! You learn much about the Vikings. First we stopped at a replica of a Viking farm. It was outstanding and well worth the stop. Next we stopped at several different Rune Stones. Jonathan was our guide here. He was very knowledgeable and gave very in depth information, overwhelming at times. Less information and fewer stops would have been better as the day dragged on long. Lastly, we toured Sigtuna, a quaint little village, well worth the stop. Unfortunately, we did not have enough time here and our driver Owe was our guide. Owe is a substitute driver who speaks softly and is difficult to understand. I don't feel we got everything we had hoped for at Sigtuna. As a result of this and Jonathan speaking too long, I have to downgrade what otherwise would have been a wonderful tour. There were only three of us on the tour and it lasted 9 hours, long day!

The tour was a lovely day trip out of Stockholm and the guide and his on location colleague was extremely well informed on the Vikings and other subjects. Highly recommended!!

This tour was incredibly informative, we learned so much about the Vikings! Our guide had an extensive knowledge base about Vikings and was eager to share their history. Our tour had to deviate from schedule unexpectedly, so we arrived in Sigtuna after all the shops had already closed. Other than that, it was a great day seeing the Swedish countryside and a really nice supplement to the city-touring in Stockholm.

We really enjoyed this trip around Stockholm to Viking history sites. The working Viking village was really interesting. We stopped at several rune stone sites as well as a stop in Sigtuna for a tour of that town. Our guide Angus was very knowledgeable as well as the other experts at different stops

We found the tour extremely interesting. Although our tour was shortened, seeing the various burial grounds and rune stones gave a fascinating insight into the culture of the Viking age. We would highly recommend the tour.
