What You Can Expect

Australian Museum General Entry Ticket

Australian Museum

Your ticket can be used anytime during the Australian Museum’s regular operating hours. Take your time to explore the exhibits, which are spread throughout three floors in the handsome colonial building, which was built in 1827.

The First Australians galleries showcase exhibits about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, featuring artifacts from various places in Australia. Learn how indigenous people make canoes, spear fish and see examples of jewelry and sculptures from New South Wales.

Then step back in the mists of time in the Surviving Australia gallery, which showcases wildest wildlife. See skeletons of enormous creatures that stomped around the continent, such as kangaroos with fangs or massive echidnas. Come face to face with live animals that may include baby crocodiles, lizards and a python, then hear about recently extinct critters such as the Tasmanian tiger. Learn how Australia’s notoriously deadly creatures hunt and catch their prey.

Find out which rare objects are currently on display in The Long Gallery, where exhibits are created from the museum’s vast collections, which are too large to be on view all at once. You can also learn about the scientific research conducted by the museum.

Refreshments, gifts and indigenous artworks are available for purchase at shops located in the museum.

5 star rating: Highly Recommended March 2016

excellent Aboriginis exhibit! That is what we wanted to see. The Australian government finally apologized for its earlier treatment of The Aborigines.

I chose a Sunday to go, bad idea. Full of screaming children, Not my idea of a good time. Overall the place is huge! It was amazing to walk through the short time I was there. The variety of different displays was beyond anything I expected. It was just a short walk from my hotel. I would love to go again and choose a day where the children may be in school to truly take the time and stop and read the plaques.
