After making your own way to Bondi Beach, which is located just six miles from Sydney CBD, meet your surfing instructor and get fitted with a surfboard, wetsuit and other gear for your surfing lesson.
Your instructor starts the lesson on the sand, introducing the gear and basic techniques for paddling out and popping up on your board. Practice your technique on the beach, and hear some entertaining stories about the history of Australian surfing. Once you are comfortable with your dry run, pick up your board and step into the warm ocean waters to try catching some waves. Your instructor accompanies you into the water and helps you to improve your paddling and time your pop up. Have plenty of customized attention and time to practice in the water as you learn.
Whether you are a first-timer or you want to refresh your skills and test the big surf, the waves and weather at Bondi Beach are perfect for year-round surfing. Have the choice of a private 1- or 1.5-hour lesson, or learn in a small group with a maximum of six people. See more details under Itinerary below.
The Bondi Surf Experience - Small Group Lesson (2 hours):
Join this popular beginner course that teaches you how to safely get out and up onto your first wave. Learn in a small group setting of six students or less, with plenty of hands-on help. To build up your knowledge and confidence, start out on the beach and learn how to recognize surf conditions and practice your surfing technique before you get into the water. Then it's off into the ocean, where you start off in 'broken waves' — the white foam created after the waves run their course. You'll be amazed at how easy, safe and enjoyable it can be to learn to surf.
Private Surfing Lesson (1 hour or 1.5 hours):
For the ultimate in surfing instruction, why not get your own personal surf lesson? Private lessons are great for those wanting lots of feedback, for families looking to learn on their own, or for people who want advanced or specific instructions not found in standard group classes. With a dedicated instructor, you're bound to learn at your fastest-possible pace with a lesson tailored to your individual needs.
