Why Our Insiders Chose This Tour

What You Can Expect

Sydney Taronga Zoo General Entry Ticket and Wild Australia Experience

Red Tailed Phascogale

After making your way across Sydney Harbour, you have two transport options to arrive at the main entrance of the zoo at the top of the hill. Either hop on the complimentary shuttle bus or gondola. The gondola glides over the animal enclosures, providing a preview of the orangutans, Asian elephants and other critters from above. When you arrive at the entrance, meet your zoo keeper guide and begin your Wild Australia tour.

During your tour, you get to meet a number of animals and take a peek into the inner workings of the zoo. Stop at a zoo kitchen and learn how the staff prepares meals for the critters’ various diets. Follow your guide into the restricted area at the Australian Nightlife exhibit to observe nocturnal creatures that are difficult to spot in the wild. Explore the world of kangaroos, wallabies and emus; pose for photos with koalas inside their enclosure; and learn about wildlife habitat and conservation projects from your expert guide. Discover the iconic creatures of the Australia, including echidnas, platypus, wombats and bilbies as you explore the zoo on this fascinating tour.

After your tour, enjoy complimentary light refreshments at the zoo’s Harbourview Cafe, which boasts spectacular views over Sydney Harbour Bridge and beyond. You’ll also receive a souvenir gift and have the rest of the day to explore Taronga Zoo at your leisure.

We spent the day at the zoo for my daughters 16th birthday. The animals were very active. I was very pleased with the size of their habitats and how well taken care of they are. We upgraded and did a behind the scenes tour which taught us more about the zoo and their animals. Made for a great birthday adventure

This was a great experience. We were in a small group of 6 with our guide and got a unique behind-the-scenes tour. This really makes a difference for visiting the zoo, and will give you access to experiences and animals others don't get. We got to feed and pet wallabies, an echidna, a feather flider, and take photos up close with the koalas. You don't get to touch or hold the koalas on this experience, so a good supplement to this tour is the koala experience at featherdale wildlife park, where you can pet koalas. Highly recommend this add-on to anyone visiting the Taronga Zoo.

This was the highlight of our trip! Well worth the price! The backstage tour was awesome. Getting close to the animals and actually feeding and touching a few of them was priceless. Our guide was actually a zookeeper, and this made the tour way more enjoyable. I would do this again!

Our guide was great! She was so knowledgeable and you could tell she loved her job. All the animals had names. This tour was fantastic! Once we walked around the area where the kangaroos and wallaby were we actually got to go inside the koala enclosure and were within inches of the koalas. It was so hard not to touch them....they were so cute. We also had hands on time with a feather-tail gliding squirrel and enchidna. The tour also included a behind the scenes tour of the kitchen and what the animals eat. It was a wonderful day. The zoo is located across the bay from the Opera House so you must that a ferry to get there. Once there you can take the cable car up to the top and the entrance and it goes over the zoo on the way up. The animals are on display for easy viewing.

The problem we had was with our booking through Viator. We could not get all 7 of us in one group since the tour is limited to 8 people. So we broke up into two groups - 4 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. When we arrived with our confirmation pages at the zoo that morning,t hey had no record of us. After waiting over 1/2 hour they allowed us into the zoo and told us they would have to get permission from higher ups to allow us to go in the afternoon tours since that would put us one over. we went in and enjoyed the zoo and when we checked back a couple of hours later, we were booked. as it turned out the other two people did not show up so it was the 7 of us after all.
