What You Can Expect

Sydney Taronga Zoo's Australian Animals Tour

Taronga Zoo's five new Asian Elephants

Make your way across Sydney Harbour, then select one of two complimentary transport options — shuttle bus or gondola — to reach the zoo's main entrance, which is located at the top of the hill. The gondola flies above the animal enclosures, giving you a sneak preview of Asian elephants, big apes and other critters down below.

A zoo keeper meets you at the designated time to start your 1.5-hour Australian Animals tour. Walking around the grounds with a zoo keeper, you'll learn first-hand about the animals and zoo operations. Find out detailed information about the kangaroo, wallaby, echidna, koala, Australian birds and more during your tour, which also explores a replica of a sandstone gorge that is typical of those found in the Blue Mountains. Remember to bring your camera for great photo ops with the critters.

Get the VIP treatment as you visit off-limits areas of the zoo and enjoy face-to-fur interactions with the animals. Since your small-group numbers have a maximum of six participants, you'll have an intimate and personalized experience with a knowledgeable zoo keeper showing you around the zoo and its inner core. It's the perfect tour for animal lovers!

After your guided tour, enjoy the rest of the day to explore the zoo at your leisure. If you have worked up an appetite, there are several restaurant and cafe options available, with sit-down or casual dining choices that you can choose. Taronga Zoo also has many picnic areas. You are welcome to bring your own picnic to enjoy while soaking in spectacular views that overlook Sydney Harbour.

I loved everything about this tour from the minute that I got on the phone to confirm my booking to the moment I left. The staff at the zoo was extremely helpful and accommodating - I was running late from the airport and they couldn't have been more helpful in making sure I was taken care of regardless. If you're lucky enough to have Wendy as your guide, you're in for a treat!

This was well worth the money to have the opportunity to see animals behind the scenes - especially the koalas. You are in a small group so there is a lot of one-on-one time. I would recommend this to anyone with kids also.

This is definitely the way to see the zoo and I thought the price was great considering it included admission, the gondola, etc. And it was quite a thrill to be able to spend time in the koala enclosure and I appreciate that the zoo does not allow people to touch these wild animals--a big reason I selected this zoo rather than other wildlife experiences. Our guides were friendly and helpful and I highly recommend this excursion.

The personalized tour was so amazing! I truly highly recommend this. The volunteer's were so knowledgable and friendly. I enjoyed the behind the scenes access that also came with the tour. I learned a lot about the zoo and the Australian animals. I would do this tour again. I don't think you'd be disappointed in booking this tour.

Tour was excellent! Guides are volunteers at the zoo, so the tour operator is the zoo. You get close up access to many animals and can actually touch some, but not koala bears unfortunately. The tour guides work at the info booth when they are not touring, so they are very knowledgeable about the zoo. This tour is shorter than the other one, but it takes you only to the Australian animals. You can see elephants anywhere, so why waste extra time walking around this very large and hilly zoo? By the way, the 90 minute tour was really 135 minutes for us, and the guide walked my wife and I to several other animal venues and showed us how to exit after the tour was over.

Volunteers were excellent and it was good to be close to the animals and get extra information about native species. Love Australian animals!
