Wow what an experience! Nima met us in town to go to the local market. He taught us how to choose the freshest vegetables and fish. After purchasing the things we were going to cook, we went back to the kitchen/restaurant where his mother guided us on how to make fresh pasta, fresh tomato sauce, grill the fish and make eggplant caponata. We then sat down to eat this delicious meal. We would absolutely do this again!
Luca the Chef is amazing. We learned about his family and how to make the dishes that his Grandma taught him to make. I would highly recommend this class. It was the high light of our trip.
Taormina is a must visit township when one is in Sicily. An absolute gem with lots to see and do. Built on a cliff with a cable car down to the beach, the town offers a main street with many shops, markets, and great places to eat. A bus ride from Taormina Hop On/Hop Off up to the higher elevation of Castle Mola is strongly recommended, where one can have lunch while taking in the view of Mt. Etna and the surrounding mountain sides.
The Cooking Class held in the center of Taormina was a fabulous experience and great value. Our chef met us at the Messina Gate, the main portal to the shopping main street, and took a mixed group of about 12 people shopping in the local market. There we selected fresh fish and vegetables, mixed with the locals, and sampled wine and cheeses and got to know our class mates, a mix of Australians, Norwegians, Brits, and Americans.
In the center of Taormina, is the family restaurant where our cooking class was held. We were taught by the family how to make pasta from scratch, prepare appetizers Sicilian style, roll and stuff fish, etc. at individual work stations in an open terrace setting. After cooking the meals we all settled down to eat a delicious multi course meal with wine. The experience lasted some 5 hours, and each person was presented with a Certificate of Completion and an Apron.
The class was certainly a main highlight of our trip to Italy/Sicily, and strongly recommended as a must do activity.

Fantastic day! Lots of fun, great food and excellent guidance from local Sicilian chef.
Really enjoyed this class. We were lucky to be in a small group of 4 in total. Enjoyed the pasta making .....they made it look so easy !
Wow!!! From start to finish this was a great day. Going to the local market to purchase our ingredients for the cooking class was great. Our chef for the day was fantastic not to mention his Italian mama. The restaurant setting was gorgeous. The size of the group was perfect for this activity. The food we created was delicious, hoping I can recreate it a home for friends and family. Can't say enough about this day.

This was a fantastic experience which allowed those participating to find out more about traditional Sicilian cuisine and how it is prepared. Following a visit to the local market to select our ingredients we retreated to a family restaurant to prepare our food. Our hosts were warm and hospitable and very patient with us as we prepared our lunch. We made Sicilian pasta, tomato sauce, caponata and a fish dish which were all delicious. The group itself interacted well and everyone seemed to have a great time.
Delicious and a lot of fun. There were only three students in the class, and we enjoyed lots of attention. We also enjoyed the fruits of our labors afterwards. It was great going to the community market, baking the bread, rolling the pasta, and cooking the brim, sardines and eggplant parmesan. The food and wine were great, so we ended up returning to the restaurant a few days later for a meal.
We had SO much fun with this group! We walked to the market and chose our fresh veggies and fish then went back and made handmade macaroni and bread. Then we ate a light lunch and had some nice local wine. We went to the kitchen and learned to make lots of dishes. Then we sat down and ate it all! We met some really nice people that we have stayed in contact with! My husband and I had a great time that we will never forget! Everyone was so nice!
Absolutely a great activity to do while in Taormina! We enjoyed seeing the market, learning to make a few typical Sicilian items and there was SO MUCH FOOD. Definitely make sure you go hungry!
This was one of our favourite cooking classes. We always try and get a cooking class in every travel destination and this one lived up to the expectations. The chef was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We went in the morning and it was only two of us so we started by going to the local market through the alleys. The local market was an explosion of colours and flavours and our chef was very patient and explained all the interesting produce, spices n meat we saw around. After a short walk back, we started with the prep and cooking in the chef's kitchen which is in this beautiful restaurant. Post the cooking session, the chef served us the meal we cooked in his restaurant and we enjoyed the lunch at our own pace. All in all, a great experience and would definitely recommend it.
Mimmo and his mama gave us a wonderful, hands-on experience. We met near the city gate and walked to a local meat, fish, and produce market to select the fresh ingredients for our 3 course lunch. Back at the restaurant, the 15 in our class learned to make caponata, fresh pasta, and a fish dish. Highly recommend
We had a little mix-up and were waiting for the guide in the wrong place but thankfully, he waited for us and our tour was underway. Dominic was really passionate about the tour and making sure everyone had a great time and he was an awesome host and guide. His mom Francesca is the chef and their family restaurant in Taormina was a wonderful venue for the cooking class. Food preparation included a trip to the market for the freshest possible veggies and fish and the dishes we made including pasta were delicious! It was a lovely setting and Dominic emailed us the recipes before the class was over. 5 Stars for the passion, the food and the ambiance of the experience!
Very relaxed and enjoyable day of good lessons, good food and beautiful atmosphere. My wife and I enjoyed every moment with Dominique and Mama! We learned to make many kinds of great Sicilian pasta and a fresh tomatoe sauce. Even ours tasted good! I didn't know what Caponata was but now I can make it too. Delicious.
I recommend this class to everyone who loves food and nice people to share it with.
Our cooking class in Taormina was one of the highlights of our entire vacation. Mimmo and his mother Francesca were kind, helpful, and excellent chefs! Mimmo took us to the market in the morning to pick out fresh ingredients for our meal. My sister doesn't like eggplant so he even let her customize her dish with zucchini instead. After selecting our vegetables and fish we walked back to his family's restaurant where we learned how to prepare eggplant caponata, fresh pasta, and fish. We all thought the meal that we prepared was the best meal we had in Sicily! Highly recommend!
Mimmo and Francesca are GREAT! nice atmosphere and good food.

This cooking class was amazing! Stefano was excellent - so kind, generous, and helpful! We started off at the market and then went on to the restaurant to begin the cooking portion of the class. It was very hands on! So interesting to see all the different ways the food is prepared. There was food and wine available to us throughout the class. Once all the cooking was complete, we then sat down to enjoy all of the food we prepared. TONS of food! Everything was delicious! They even gave us leftovers to take back with us. And the other people on the tour made it even more enjoyable. Shortly after the class, Stefano emailed everyone the recipes which made it even better! I would highly recommend this class to anyone!

This was an excellent experience. Going to the market we learned so much about buying fresh vegetables and fish. We cooked, learned so much and ate the wonderful foods that we prepared. This is a must do. Immortal and his family were the best. We will never forget this experience.
Dominic was sensational! My husband and I had the best afternoon cooking and interacting with the class. Dominic made it fun and informative and his families restaurant is definitely a spot we will be returning to on our next trip to Taormina. Two thumbs up. Ps - a lot of food! Come hungry!
This was an amazing experience ! Loved every minute of it. Porto Messina restaurant and our chef were the best. We had no idea what to expect when we booked this tour four friends traveling to Sicily and it far exceeded our expectations. What a fun day !
The cooking class we took in Taormina was awesome! Our chef met with us and immediately took us to the local market where he spoke about the meal we were going to prepare. He gave us a lesson on the local produces, meats, and seafood. After we selected our produce and fish, we went to the restaurant and started our cooking class. Dominic's mother was there to assist us with the cooking class. We learned how to make their local version of Sicilian Eggplant dish called caponata, homemade tomato sauce, and several types of pasta. The four-hour class went quickly because you were in engage in every aspect of the class. We were also able to sample their local wines. I would highly recommend to class to anyone who is thinking about visiting Taormina.
Fantastic. Stefano led us a short distance to a narrow alley that brought us to the fresh markets where he showed us the fish and incredibly fragrant and colourful fruit and vegetables of the land. Back to the restaurant to sample the fresh seasonal fruits we had just gotten, before hitting the hot bricks of the pizza oven to make breads and pizzas like a local.
All the kitchen staff were enthusiastic and friendly, helping us to understand and appreciate their food. participating in the professional Kitchen production was like being part of the family - then we got to eat everything we made. Sensational morning and mum and I will treasure the memories forever.
An enjoyable, entertaining and instructive experience with Mimo and his family. Mimo is passionate about Sicilian food and cooking and was eager to answer our questions and to volunteer details about the food he showed us and bought at the market and how it was to be cooked.
We had a great time preparing and cooking the lunch with Francesca, his expeienced chef mother, and Bianca, his apprentice 10 year old daughter - it was all great fun yet educational. This was serious instruction and I really copped it for my heavy handed use of pepper....
Even more serious was to sit down and enjoy the fruits of our labour cabonata, hand made macaronni with tomato and basil sauce, and rolled fish fillets in savoury breadcrumbs with lemon - the fish was the local delicacy the extraordinary long, thin, silver spatula - just delicious! All washed down with an excellent DOC Etna Insolia white wine.
Just do it!
This was an amazing experience. I was able to learn a great deal about selecting the best ingredients for a meal. Cooking with the kids just made it even more fun. I had a really wonderful couple who I cooked with and enjoyed the morning too. Thank you so much to the family and viator for allowing me the opportunity to learn and enjoy my own great meal.
If you book ONE thing in Taormina it
needs to be this! Mimo takes to the local market, explains what you and #39;ll be making and the ingredients you and #39;ll be using. Then, at his restaurant you meet the other star of the day, his mother Francesca. She and #39;s the epitome of a Sicilian Mom. A MUST DO!
