Meet your guide and small group of up to 15 people on arrival at Tauranga cruise port, and set out on the around 1-hour drive to Rotorua. Soak up the scenery along the way, passing through the orchards of Te Puke – the home of the New Zealand Kiwifruit – and enjoying views of Lake Rotoiti and Lake Rotorua.
Arrive at Te Puia and head to the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute to learn more about traditional Maori handicrafts and watch demonstrations of woodcarving and flax weaving. Then, set out on a guided walk of Te Puia’s natural wonders and marvel at the geothermal valley of Whakarewarewa, with its bubbling mud pools and magnificent Pohutu Geyser. Along the way, stop by the kiwi-house to admire New Zealand’s famous flightless bird, the Kiwi, then explore the Maori fortified village.
Your visit concludes with a spectacular Maori Cultural Performance, including traditional songs, dances, and demonstrations of fighting skills (including the Haka). There will also be time to purchase lunch (not included) at the Te Puia café.
After lunch, make a stop in Rotorua for a short sightseeing tour, visiting sights such as the Government Gardens, the Rotorua Bath House museum, Rachel's Pool, the Blue Baths, and the Polynesian Spa.
Finally, hop aboard a jet boat for a thrilling cruise across Lake Rotorua and jump off to explore Mokoia Island. Learn how the island – a rhyolite lava dome – was formed from your guide, then set out on a guided nature walk to spot wildlife including kiwi and other exotic birds. Stop to admire the stunning Hinemoa's Hot Pool, before heading back to the boat.
On the return journey to Tauranga, drive along the coastal road to Mount Maunganui and take in the views from the summit of the ancient volcano. Your tour ends with drop-off at Tauranga port in time for your cruise departure.
