MONA OWNER DAVID WALSH SHOWS THAT GOD MUST HAVE A WICKED SENSE OF HUMOUR OR IS UTTERLY BARMY!
MONA is truly the eighth wonder of the world, buried in a place that has often been described by ignorant travel-writers as the End of the World...Tasmania.
MONA is worthy of a visit simply to experience and gaze in wonder at this remarkable architectural accomplishment, an ant's nest of caverns dug deep into the earth containing the strangest collection of Old and New art...a quirky, spellbinding and idiosyncratic sensory challenge.
I cannot decide whether I was more Flabbered than Gasted by the sheer genius of the creator of MONA, David Walsh, who is known as GOD and is rich enough to behave accordingly.
As the famous caption to a cartoon published in the New Yorker states...I may not know Art, but I know what I like.
This certainly applies to a subjective evaluation of the works on display at MONA, which are often amazing or repulsive, amusing or just rubbish.
It was fascinating to listen to the opinions of visitors as they exited the MONA complex, who were either dilettantes, pretenders or just plain confused by the quixotic and exotic items on display.
So take a bow, David Walsh, visionary, dreamer and always the gambler, you have given the world something unique, and have challenged Joe and Freda Biscuit-Eater to question their notion of what art is...or isn't!!!
And I'll bet that was just your wicked intention.
So Mission Accomplished... Mate! or should that be GOD!!!
This was the best tour of our 27 day cruise. The local guide grew up in the area and new a lot about New Zealand. The tour was on a 12 passenger van. Both Rotorua and Hobbiton were excellent stops. The included lunch was high quality. The cruise line offered separate excursions to each of these stops for about the same price as this tour that went to both of them.
One of the best tours we've done while cruising around New Zealand. We first went to Te Puia where we've seen geyser and Maori performance, both very good. The highlight of the tour was hobbiton movie set. Really beautiful and worth seeing even for people that are not LOTR fans.
To reach both destinations and come back to the port we travelled for quite some time in a mini bus with very knowledgeable driver who told us a lot about the area and New Zealand in general during the drive.
Highly recommend this tour. It's a must see for all LOR and Hobbit movie fans. The gysers and mud pools were also phenomenal. Our tour guide Grant from Zeelandier tours was amazing and provided lots of details about the sights and general commentary on the Country's Maori history, geography, leading industries etc. He was well informed and kept the audience engaged. He was also quite funny with his anecdotes and stories. We were picked up and dropped off at the cruise terminal well within the timelines.
Mind boggling the scale of this film set
T is incredible and tha natural use of the land is too,
this is one to take for sure,
Nate and Maria were great and knowledgeable hosts. The Hobbiton experience was well spaced out so you don't feel like you are there with so many other tourists. The meal there on site was fabulous. All the staff was great. The Maori cultural center was also very interesting. Great all day tour.
Delightful tour as promised in the ad brochure. Would recommend this small number group excursion.
I really enjoyed this tour. We started off in Rotorua where we were able to see a geyser go off and see the hot springs the area is famous for. I enjoyed our visit to Hobbiton where we also had our lunch. Lunch was great. The area is beautiful, so even if you are not a huge Lord of the Rings fan, you will enjoy the scenery. This was a very interesting tour and was a highlight of our trip.
This is the best tour we experienced in NZ. The tour guide was very informative. Hobbiton was an amazing place, and a very well organized tourist stop. The Hobbiton Tour Guide was excellent. The cultural village and Rotorua sightseeing was well worth the trip.
Much better than we expected. I was one of four and the only one to have either read or seen the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit books and movies. The three others thought it was a great experience and allowed them to feel the uniqueness of the place and the land. Great day and well worth the time and
This was an absolutely wonderful excursion! Our guide, Grant, was excellent and the entire day was just great. The Hobbiton movie set was more than I expected. We were there in early February and it was hot, but the drink of ginger beer at the Green Dragon Tavern afterwards was worth it.
One of the best tours of any cruise we have been on,only disappointment was having to pay in Yankee dollars otherwise a great day, tour guides were excellent
CliffCheryl United States of ...
Top notch. Could have spent more time at Hobbiton but it was about right. The buffet lunch was superb, albeit not really what I would expect Hobbits to eat. The guided tour was very good and the guide was very knowledgeable and share lots of interesting trivia.
Very enjoyable day. From the first moment of booking right through to the end, I knew I had made the right choice. Grant was very knowledgeable and informative and made sure we got to see as much as possible. Highlight of the day was Hobbiton
Absolutely brilliant!! This was the only tour that combined Rotorua and Hobbiton on the same day. Great for those on a cruise.
Our tour guide was fantastic. He had great local knowledge and looked after us.
The small group we were with were lovely.
Would definitely recommend this tour.
Our tour guide Laura of the Rings was an absolute expert on the movies. Best tour that we could have expected!!
The trip to the Geyser was beautiful and the Geyser was great. We thoroughly enjoyed the traditional people and their entertainment. The other journey to Hobbiton was awesome. It was so special and the guide gave us plenty of information about the movies. The day was filled with 'aww' factor.
Very beautiful trip, Maori culture center is awesome with Geyser sprouts very long time, hobbit town
is very beautiful, the driver gave a lot information and controlled the time perfectly.
The Lord Of The Rings in Hobbiton was better than I expected. It was a really neat experience that I would recommend to everyone.
