This was our favourite experience in New Zealand. Eric was a very friendly and knowledgeable tour guide who gave a running commentary on our surroundings, New Zealand history, culture and produce. He picked us up from the cruise port and returned us in plenty of time to board again. Our stop on the way to Hobbiton at Mossop's Honey farm was most interesting seeing the bee hives - tasting the chocolate honeycomb at the bargain price of 1 for 4 pieces is a must! The ice cream was also delicious. Hobbiton was crowded with a tour of around 20 people every ten minutes but definitely worthwhile. There are so many hobbit holes in them there hills! Such a beautiful place and informative tour guide if you can here them from the back of the crowded group- best to walk up the front. We then stopped off at a waterfall and kiwi orchard on the way back where we dressed up as Gandolf and Galadriel with some really impressive swords. Overall a wonderful experience for us and our two kids aged 7 and 8.
Great day. I would highly recommend this tour.
If you love The Hobbit and Lord Of the Rings, you will love this tour. What fun!
This was a wonderful experience! The excursion was smooth and organized. Our guides were delightful. A must see in the Tauranga area!
This was a highlight of all the entire shore excursions! The tour was fantastic and I had a great time. I would highly recommend this excursion for anyone who visits Tauranga, NZ
The walk around the movie set was very enjoyable. First of the Hobbiton tour guide was very informative. As we approached each of the hobbit hole, she provided information relating to the character and their part in the move and then gave us a lot of time to take photos. As well, she pointed out many points of interest. The walk around the movie set was very enjoyable and at a good pace to look around and take photos. The whole experience was excellent. We also had time to do some souvenir shopping.
As we were heading back to ship, we stopped at McLaren Falls. Got out of van, looked around, and to take more photos. There was another stop. This time it was at the edge of a field where kiwi fruits to see how they were grown. This was my first encounter to see the kiwi fruits up close, not just in a supermarket. One more stop, this time it was at a local honey shop. We got to see a display of bees in their hive behind glass and the queen bee was pointed out. Looked around the shop to see the many uses of honey. Thank you for the manuka honey ice cream cone. It was a tasty treat at the right time.
When we arrived back to harbour where the ship was docked, we had the opportunity to walk to explore the area to take a look at the many shops nearby. When it was time to get back aboard the ship, the walk was a very short one.
Great tour, interesting guide, I recommend it! Even if you're not into LOTR Hobbiton is still adorable and fun to look around. We also went to two different waterfalls and a kiwi farm. It was a very full day, definitely worth it.
Hobbit on is a fantastic film set much bigger than we expected and a must see. Brian our driver was excellent and also took us to visit the waterfalls where part of Petes Dragon was filmed and a honey shop with live bees on the way back. He also treated us to a ice cream - I can recommmend the manuca honey flavour.

Overall it was a great choice of tour.
The country side is incredible, then when we arrived at Hobbiton, I didn't expect it to be so large and well kept.
Only regretful part is the break at The Green Dragon pub, is too short, there were people still trying to get their drink or something to eat before it was time to leave.
The bus driver was excellent and because we had extra time, showed us a couple of extra things that were not on the tour.
Overall it was agreat trip, I would do it again.
If you are a Hobbit fan, this tour is the tour for you! Bus and guides were excellent and a side hike to the falls was a nice addition to the trip!
