What You Can Expect

Full-Day Milford Sound Extraordinaire Tour from Te Anau

Admiring the view

Your tour begins with morning pickup in Te Anau or Manapour and a scenic drive to Milford Sound.

Stop first at Te Anau Downs and view the sheltered harbor, Bluegum Bay, which sits opposite the Middle Fiord, the starting point for the Milford Track. Then, take in views of the Earl and Livingston Mountains at Eglinton Valley.

Take a short stroll along a boardwalk at Mirror Lakes to see beech forest and wetland pools. The 45th South Parallel marks the halfway point between the equator and the South Pole.

Stop next at Cascade Creek, then the Hollyford Lookout, which overlooks the Hollyford Valley and Darren Mountains. Have the option to do the 20-minute return walk to Marian Cascade, which tumbles from Lake Marian before pulling into Gunn’s Camp for morning tea, followed by the historic museum and gift shop.

Get photo ops at Fall’s Creek and Monkey Creek, and if time allows, a 5-minute walk leads to a point with views of the Gertrude Valley. Look for kea sightings at the east portal of the 4,166 foot (1,270 meter) long Homer Tunnel and pass through the scenic Cleddau Valley. During the last part of the journey to Milford Sound, take a 10-minute walk to The Chasm, rock formations that make up a 72 foot (22 meter) deep and narrow ravine cut by the Cleddau River.

Snap photos of Mt Tutoko, the highest mountain in Fiordland, Tutoko Bridge, and Mt Tutoko as a backdrop. Then arrive at the departure point for your cruise. Enjoy a 2-hour cruise on the Milford Sound, keeping an eye out for dolphins, seals, and the Fiordland crested penguin.

Your tour ends with return to your accommodation after 10 hours.

Wonderful day out. Our tour guide Johnno was very knowledgeable and personable. We had many picturesque stops on the way to Milford Sound and Milford Sound cruise itself was excellent. Good idea to do this tour from Te Anau rather than Queenstown as shorter drive means more stops can be included.

From hotel pick up til drop off it was perfect. Our driver guide, Ray was very knowledgeable and had a pleasant delivery. The ultimate trip featured a stop at an old construction camp for tea and a look into the past. The drive through Fiorland. Actionable Park, with stops for short walks was beautiful. The Milford Sound. Raise was breathtakingly beautiful.
Staying TeAnau Malden the trip more leisurely than departing from Queenstown.

Excellent guide and very professional company. Despite a tire blow out, they were able to get another bus to our stranded group and rearrange our stops so that we got to see everything. And, the everything is amazing! Milford Sound is beautiful beyond words and all the stops before and after the boat ride were interesting and well explained by our wonderful guide, Ray. Highly recommended!

From start to finish, this was an excellent tour. We were staying in Te Anau and were picked up from our hotel by Ray, a very knowledgeable, entertaining and super friendly guide/ driver. There were just 12 of us on the minibus, just right to give a personal feel to the journey. We were given a map of our route, to and from the cruise, which detailed all the stops along the way. These were a really good mix of scenic photo opportunities and short walks into the bush to see more beautiful scenery. We loved the 'pit stop' at Gunn's Camp and appreciated the coffe, tea and date scones that Ray expertly provided. The cruise itself was everything we hoped utterly beautiful scenery and a feeling of peace and tranquility. The boat was small enough not to feel part of a tourist rat race and large enough to give everyone plenty of viewing space. The commentary was knowledgeable and engaging. This really is a fantastic trip and we ended the day with the feeling that we had made lots of superb memories.

WOW !!! I'm so glad I took this tour. Our guide was fantastic. We had friends who took a tour from Queenstown that was mostly driving and little time to spend in Milford Sound or on the way there. The tour from Te Anau gave us much more time to see this magnificent area.

We were well cared for by Ray and he did a terrific tour. My husband and I were the only ones in the van so the special attention made it even better, but with a full van, I'm sure it would have been great as well. The scenery was beautiful and Ray's good information and tips were interesting and helpful. It was just the right amount of time and information. We got to do a little bit of walking here and there, but nothing strenuous. The boat tour in the sound was refreshing and the scenery was stunning. The morning scones and the lunch were above average. We were very satisfied with everything and highly recommend this tour. I also think going during the winter is a plus - less people and with a little coolness and rain, it's a pleasure.
