What You Can Expect

Full Day Fish Cave and Hill Tribe Villages of Mae Hong Son

See Authentic Hill Tribe Village

Start with 8:30am pickup at your hotel in Mae Hong Son, then chat with the guide about the day’s itinerary during the trip to Tham Pla National Park, home of the “Fish Cave”. You’ll find hundreds of soro brook carp and a shrine that's built to protect the sacred fish, along with scenic trails through the shady forest.

The next stop of the day is a hill tribe village that’s home to Lahu Na, or Black Lahu people, named for the brightly embroidered black tunics that are their traditional garb. Following your time at the village, head to Tham Taralod Forest Park to see prehistoric remains and artifacts that have been discovered onsite. Take a guided tour of a cave that’s bristling with stalactites and stalagmites, then visit a nearby restaurant for lunch.

Your group’s afternoon will be split between a pair of villages that are home to Lisu people and White Karen people, both groups with distinctive languages, costumes, and traditions. Make the most of your time with a private guide to ask questions about life in the villages, the challenges that face today's hill tribe members, and how traditions are maintained in the communities; if you're looking for unique souvenirs, this is the perfect time to shop for handmade crafts. At the end of the afternoon, begin the return trip to Mae Hong Son, where this tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel.
