What You Can Expect

Lisbon Day Trip from the Algarve

Enjoy free time on your Lisbon day trip and look out for the local custard tarts!

Set off on your Lisbon day trip with a hotel pickup from the Algarve, then hop into an air-conditioned coach and head north. On your way 3-hour journey to Portugal’s capital, relax and gaze out the window at charming coastal views.

Arrive in the hilly capital of Lisbon and get ready to discover Portugal’s rich history. Tie up your laces and start your walking tour with a stroll through the Belém district situated at the mouth of the Tagus River. Observe Lisbon’s most distinguished buildings and landmarks as you explore with your expert guide.

Take a break at Belém Tower, a fortification that played a major role in Portugal’s Age of Discoveries. Nearby, enter the Jerónimos Monastery which was erected in the 16th century during the rule of King Dom Manuel and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. From your audio guide learn how the monastery was dedicated to Vasco de Gama's successful voyage to India. Then, comb the monastery admiring its quintessential Gothic Manueline architecture and its unique style of ornate etched arches. Upon finishing your audio guide, continue to Alfama where Lisbon gets its cultural charge.

Weave your way along lively streets of terracotta roofed buildings and palm canopied courtyards and experience Alfama’s Roman and Moorish influences. Then, stare up at the captivating Castle of São Jorge whose imposing hillside swagger feeds the energy of this neighborhood.

Make a pitstop for lunch (own expense) and then enjoy ample time to leisurely explore Lisbon’s cobblestone corridors and squares. “When in Lisbon”- locate a bakery and taste the famous Portuguese egg tart - pastéis de nata (own expense). Continue to discover hidden gems or duck into souvenir shops before meeting your guide at a prearranged time and place. Hop back on your coach and return to your Algarve hotel where your tour ends.

Excellent trip. The bus was very comfortable and the ride smooth. The tour guide was extremely nice and knowledgeable. She took excellent care of all on board the trip, provided plenty of information about everything on the way and about Lisbon. It was a very enjoyable experience for me and my family. This tour is highly recommended.

It was a lovely day and the tour guide was very knowledgable. Given that we only had two breaks in Lisbon, the first one around the Monastry for 1.5 hours and the second one for 3.5 hrs, I teamed up with another traveller and we rented a Tuck-Tuck. We have probably seen more than most of our fellow passengers and it was a lovely and fun experience, except from the fact that I could not have climbed up all the mountaineous streets in Lisbon and see all what I wanted to in 3.5 hrs. Our tour guide took us two other vista points in Lisbon Alfama being one than the Sao George Castle, where you pay entry fees and where a restaurant is. So we left that for another time. We have seen roman ruins, walked through Alfama and have been to churches. It was a fun and lovely afternoon.

The tour guide Ana was excellent and very helpful. i used this trip to take advantage of the transportation from Albufeira to lisbon, and learn about the main stops. I then stayed on in Lisbon, but think the transportation and itinerary with guide was and excellent option.

I very much enjoyed the day trip to Lisbon. It was well worth the trip.
One cautionary note to everyone who would like to take this day trip is that the pick-up and drop-off from all the hotels takes THREE hours. Plus the drive back-and-forth to lisbon is six hours, and so you will only get three to four hours to see the city.

The Trip was good for a day trip. As others have mentioned, it was quite a bit of driving most of the day was spent on the bus but for the price, you really can't beat it. There are a few hours in the day for you to wander around the city on your own, but it goes by fast, and Lisbon is definitely a city that needs more time to enjoy. The tour guide did a good job of giving information on the city as we drove through.
