At a start time to suit your schedule, make your own way to Rijswijk (Delft Noord) — a 5-minute train ride from The Hague — and stroll to Delftse Pauw, one of the few Dutch factories that still continue the tradition of hand-painted Delft pottery
Alongside a guide, you’ll take a tour of the factory and see the production process of the classic blue-and-white pottery first hand. Break for a hot beverage and traditional Dutch biscuit before trying your hand at creating Delft pottery in a painting session.
Under the guidance of a professional artist, you’ll learn the intricate techniques required to paint delicate blue designs on white Delft pottery. Unleash the artist within as you complete your project, which will then be fired in a kiln and shipped to your home the following week.
Then, visit the showroom to admire pristine pieces of Delft pottery. Receive discounted rates if you purchase any additional items, and arrange shipping to your home at your own expense.
The most wonderful experience of my trip! I was able to work along side some of the actual painters and make 2 things to bring home as souvenirs from the factory. The artists were so knowledgeable and treated me so well. I was able to spend about 3 hours working side-by-side with them. While I was painting some others tours came through and thought I was one of the artists and were taking
This was one of the best. Although the factory was out in the boonies and not clear direction.
Being Dutch myself I have a collection of delftware at home so having the opportunity to paint my own piece was perfect. Our instructor was a professional painter of delft who stopped working that day to guide and teach us. You first practice on a tile to get the technique then you choose from various pieces which one you want to paint. The outline is put on the delft piece as a guide. The instructor is very helpful and there to assist you if you want to do a little freehand as well. Go for it! They kiln dry your piece and mail it home. I would have never thought I could do this but it turned out beautiful. Bottled water, cookies and chocolate candy were provided. Class size of 2, my friend and I. We Sat at the desk of professionals with their works of art in progress on the desk. Previous to class you are given a tour of facility and shown how they pour and mold the plaster. After the class there is time to shop in the store. Don't miss this tour.
This tour was amazing!
Lovely group. Very nice. We are novices at painting but they made it fun. We talked about it for days. Can't wait to see the tiles we did.
